Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 20, 2010 2:06 pm Hi All, Apologies if this thread already exists on the forum but I've had a pretty good look and can't find anyone with a similiar query. My situation: I've built my first home (Perth, WA) and due to financial constraints I've sealed my concrete floors while I furnish the house (using cromlin concrete floor sealer). My original plan was to tile/carpet/ my floors after a year. Having been in my home for almost 3 months the concrete floor is starting to annoy me Its already sealed and so doesnt cause any problems as far as dust is concerned, its more the look that bothers me. Having chatted with a few self titled "DIY GURUS" I've been told that I can quite easily paint over the sealed floors and then seal over the top of that? My query: - What are my options as far as painting my concrete floors? and, - Is it simply that easy that I can purchase some sort of nuetral coloured floor paint and re-seal over the top of it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks tom Re: Painting concrete floors (as an interim solution) 2Jul 20, 2010 9:38 pm Hi Tom We are in the polished concrete/floor grinding/floor preparation industry and can give you some NON DIY advice. One simple rule really, what ever you put on the surface now will need to be removed prior to the laying of tiles, timber, bamboo, vapour barriers etc etc. The floor coating will more than likely stop the adhesive of your eventual floor covering from keying onto the concrete. Diamond grinding will more than likely be required prior to the installation of your floor coverings and this of course will add to the cost. As far as the carpet area's go, paint to your hearts content as carpet will go over almost anything unless it is glued carpet of course and I am guessing you will not be going down that road in a residential application. Hope this helps. Steve Re: Painting concrete floors (as an interim solution) 3Jul 20, 2010 10:18 pm Spot on. Painted floors cause cost blowouts when you come to put in your overlay flooring, vinyl, tiles etc later on. Good advice. Hi Simeon, Thank you for laying it down for us. Makes sense. Appreciate it very much. Have a nice day.
