Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 05, 2010 12:39 am Hi, We are building in SW of WA in a place called Vasse, funnily enough! I have been searching and researching (mainly online due to work and family commitments) to try and educate myself on timber flooring. The end result is I am so confused and desperately seeking advice from someone more experienced than myself. 1 week til handover and I am no closer to a decision Definites - Timber, spotted gum. Area 62.5 m = dining, kitchen, hall and entry. The bedrooms and lounge will be carpeted in a very neutral solution dyed nylon paint colour - solver slighty and oyster linen dulux Queries? Engineered or solid wood width? Partner likes thicker boards, but i have read that their may be more variation and this can look funny? Is readyflor a better variety than boral? Should i just go with a laminate or vinyl (allure) as I have one toddler and potentially more to come, budget is reasonably tight and this is not unfortunately the "dream house" Any suggestions or advice is more than welcome! Enlighten me! Thanks Re: bamboozled by timber floor options 2Jul 08, 2010 10:03 pm By 'variation' are you referring to colour/tonal variations? If you are spotted gum is probably the worst choice as it has more colour variation than any other flooring. Re: bamboozled by timber floor options 3Jul 08, 2010 10:17 pm I layed timber solid wood (Kempas) flooring onto a concrete slab myself. It looked great, was easy to clean, and aded value to the house. The only drawback was the wood was soft and dented fairly easily, plus the poly lacquer finish had surface scratches after a day or two (cant help it with kids) Re: bamboozled by timber floor options 4Jul 09, 2010 12:02 am Hello Vasse
Have you considered bamboo, the compressed range? This is a lot more durable and harder than hardwoods. Also bamboo is naturally white ant resistance. For more information on bamboo flooring see ********************* this is a great informative web site, explains the differences between hardwoods and bamboo.
Re: bamboozled by timber floor options 5Jul 23, 2010 7:13 am Readyfloor is made in Indonesia (last time I heard), Boral is made in New South Wales. Sone ppl like to buy Australian Made, so that's why I point that out. As far as quality goes, I have rarely heard a bad thing said about Readyfloor, which is a good thing. Boral doesn't have too many dramas either. The biggest concern with some Australian and imported species is checking, or small cracks appearing in the floor. It's up to you. The Boral stuff will likely be a bit more expensive as it's Australian. From a "green" point of view, it's probably a safer bet as we would have better checks and balances in respect to the environment here in Australia. The Allure LVT option would be also good. Less exoensive, water resistant, eSiest to install (yourself), so you save alot of $$$. I sell it in Melbourne and it goes well. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15884 The most likely cause of your timber swelling (parquetry?) is either a plumbing leak or carelessly leaving water on floors after use or both. Without seeing, i am ignoring… 1 3271 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7256 |
