Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 23, 2010 11:18 pm Hi I'm currently building & looking for good quality laminates. So far I've heard of Formica, Quickstep & TarkettDoes anyone has any recommendations & where to source these brands at a competitive price? My builder won't leave the skirting off for us to install the flooring & has suggested that we get "quads". Could anyone please explain what "quads" are for? Do i need some sort of underlay in addition of the "quads"? It's very obvious that I'm new at this Many thanks in advance! Re: Please recommend me laminated timber flooring brands :) 2Jun 23, 2010 11:33 pm Quickstep is the only one the other 2 are crap compared to quickstep whick is why they are also cheaper.Quad is used around the walls to cover the expansion gap that you must leave and yes floating floors must have an underlay under them. I always thought Tarkett was one of the better brands, as it seemed to have a good warranty. Is it really not that good compared to quickstep? Does it wear badly? eimaj Re: Please recommend me laminated timber flooring brands :) 4Jun 24, 2010 11:26 pm I have been told direct from there sales rep to stop complaining about there product and just lay it i have returned a few batches of there laminate mainly because they are lippy at the joins and they tell me its normall. Re: Please recommend me laminated timber flooring brands :) 7Jun 26, 2010 12:42 am ok.... Scotia looks heaps better. Quick step is the best i used to sell it... you can get it from Deco rug 12.50m2 they have Heavea, beach, cherry kempas(looks the best) and murbeau. they might have expanded their range now and price might have gone up a bit but if your paying more that 15m2 then start to negotiate cause its too much. You will have a choice of 2 underlays. BUY THE BETTER SOUND DAMPNER ONE.. Believe me its not for the sound dampner qualities i say this, but it helps cover more inconsistantcies you might have in your slab or sub floor. if you choose the thinner one then on the day of quoting install. anything not right with levels they will tell you you need to put self leveling compound and its not cheap. Dont pay anymore than 8m2 for THICKER underlay. As always check the packs as they come off the delivery van, Pull them apart and look at EVERY piece as the corners chip easily and ive seen cealed packs where most of the tongue is missing pull faulty ones aside and tell them to replace them. it DOESNT cost them to do this as they give it back to manufacturer, but they will probably kick up a stink cause they have to come back. Go through the same process if you get your own installer. I have seen them not say anything and fit the faulty ones. Pieces on my floor with half the tongue missing not giving a proper fit, no thank you. they just used more glue on those *. That's disapointing because I really liked some of their colors. Will look at quickstep. What are your thoughts on Parador laminate? thanks eimaj Re: Please recommend me laminated timber flooring brands :) 10Jun 26, 2010 6:10 pm Kronotex is another that I recommend you look at. Pricey but some of their range comes in long lengths. I would have gone with them if they had a colour that I liked. Chris Re: Please recommend me laminated timber flooring brands :) 12Jun 27, 2010 9:04 am lol..... im sorry i didnt read properly i thought it was quick style. (normal tongue and groove). Quick step is interlocking off memory, anyhoo its been about 10yrs since ive sold it... but the advice i gave is sound.... you can use as starters your right.... my advice was for excessive damage and why pay for a product thats like that at all, its not like you tell the vendor to stick some damaged ones in there to use as starters. If your paying for something then you should get it in my opinion. LOL no need to fix a problem and or substitute quality if its right the first time https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=37134 THE THREAD https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35962 THE BLOG! http://pedrosinspiredbeauty.blogspot.com/ BRICKS BRICKS ARE FINISHED... Re: Please recommend me laminated timber flooring brands :) 13Jun 29, 2010 10:00 pm Monichi, DO NOT pay anything under $25 for a decent, or $50 for a better quality product. Anything under this amount is on MDF core boards and chips and cracks easily, as well as absorbing water like a sponge if it gets anywhere near water. Pedro's comments are self-evident. He says that it should be under $15 then lists a number of problems with the product. Why would you bother with inferior product? Go to a Flooring specialist, not a rug store or a hardware store and buy some proper product. Yes the Quickstep is good. The best people to see are the Specialists in ALL types of flooring. Harvey Norman gets mentioned here a bit, Carpet Court, Carpet Choice. All reputable dealers that can point you in the right direction to some quality products. Check the following: A HDF core board (if they don't know, don't buy it), 15+ year warranties are good starts. Re: Please recommend me laminated timber flooring brands :) 14Jun 29, 2010 10:37 pm lol.... again its been 10 years im sure prices have gone up.... my apoligies for not checking that first.. as far as the quality im sure its better now aswell.. as far as going to a rug store well that rug store has been selling floating floors to the public way before harvey norman. quick style was very popular then and for nat timber floating floors it was redi plank out of asia and a German brand cant quite remember its name khurs or something like that. that product was leading the industry with its 20yr guarantee. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=37134 THE THREAD https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35962 THE BLOG! http://pedrosinspiredbeauty.blogspot.com/ BRICKS BRICKS ARE FINISHED...
