Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 31, 2010 5:03 pm After our experience with DIY carpet cleaning attempt we decided to leave it to the professionals. I made some enquiries and got a quote on "special". We got somebody in Friday morning. The (main) guy told me that he would recommend an "industrial" cleaning. He would call the office to get a good deal for me but he probably saw that I was not to pleased to pay "more" and quickly said that only our main bedroom and stairs at an additional cost. A "special" price of 50 (instead of 60). We agreed to do so as the stairs where indeed very dirty and we had a couple of patches here and there in the main room Furthermore he asked if anybody had allergies as he could put a "special" product against dust mites, at an additional cost of course. We declined this. As mentioned in their website and booking email they would also move basic furniture. Although we nearly emptied the rooms we left a light cabinet, our desk and our "massive" bed. He informed me that he would not be able to move the bed and the desk but would spray under the bed to put to deodorize the carpet and he would move the light cabinet. Work started, the younger guy quickly vacuumed the rooms but not the stairs. They sprayed a product everywhere that "release" the dirt and deodorize the carpet. My understanding was that the "industrial" clean was done with extra "hard" brush. I do believe that this was done in the main bedroom (not witnessed) but was definitely not used for the stairs. After 45 minutes the job was done. He showed me around. He showed a couple of spots he couldn't get out but which did lighten. Some areas where spots have disappeared. He told me that everything would be dry between 2 and 4 hours and that the "darker" areas that were "wetter" would lighten up when they dry. He mentioned that he did spray the product against dust mites for free The results and my thoughts/question: - The cabinet that was meant to be moved was not moved. The area was dry under the cabinet and it was still at the same spot - the area under the bed which was meant to be deodorized under the bed was not done. It was as dry as before. - The hallway still looks the same as before - The staircase still looks the same as before except from a patch or two. I do not believe that this had an industrial clean as I saw him spraying and going with a "buffer" on top. - Today more then 72 hours after the carpet is still not dry! I had to put a heater in the rooms to dry it up. - I wonder what was that free dust mite threatment and when was this applied as I haven't "seen" anything/ Somehow I feel this is not right. Why give me a “dust mite” spraying for free? Why not add this on the invoice? Why add on the invoices that I got free deodorising if this is included in the price anyway? Why did it took soooo long to dry up? The website mention 2 hours and the cleaner said for 4 hours? Although the bedrooms “look ok”, I’m not please with the staircase or the hall way? I might whinge for little things (cabinet, bed area) however why tell me you would do this but not do this at the end? I do understand that marks can not all be removed but the carpet cleaning that was done through the previous owner was much better (seen before and after results). I feel that they tried to make me feel “special” with the free stuff and “special” industrial cleaning but the results is just not there. (yes I might be another little lady who got sucked in lol but still) Now, I do not what them to come back or ask a full refund but I just want to get that “industrial” fee back because the results is not worth that extra money. Does this sound fair??? Re: Do I have enough grounds to ask for a refund? 2May 31, 2010 5:12 pm Sounds like the carpet cleaners we had. We made the mistake of upgrading to the 'top' package and it definately was not worth it. Our carpets are no different. When I complained he stated that carpets needed to steam cleaned every three months. Who can afford to have it done four times a year! You're not in Sydney are you? Re: Do I have enough grounds to ask for a refund? 3May 31, 2010 6:04 pm Funfun, So what was the original quote, and to do what exactly? Then when they came, what did they charge to do what exactly? From what you have described, it seems that you were paying something like $60 to do a staircase, main bedroom and hallway. Is that right? Clearly you are not satisfied with the results and feel that you have been had. So whose fault is that? I'm sorry to be blunt, but you were not at all discerning when you chose this company. You and the company involved are both not living in the real world. They are pretending to be professional carpet cleaners and offering intangible freebies. And you are pretty naive to expect anything of value for the prices that it seems you have paid. If I've misinterpreted the amount paid, I'll retract my comments, but really... why the hell are people so gullible that they are so readily conned into thinking they can get a quality service for peanuts? The thing is, you could have chosen a quality technician who would have delighted you with their service for around $160+ but instead you've wasted your money on an unscrupulous company. If you've read anything on this forum, you should have known better! Ash. Re: Do I have enough grounds to ask for a refund? 4May 31, 2010 9:07 pm Ash is right. As a retailer of carpet, I use pro cleaners now and again as required. I'll pay a couple hundred just for a room or two BUT they are guru's who know what they are doing. It sounds like you got what you paid for (sorry to also be blunt). You must use ACCI or Woolsafe approved techs, not sub-standard ******* operators with too good to be true offers. Re: Do I have enough grounds to ask for a refund? 5Jun 02, 2010 1:27 pm @Melly. Yes, I'm in the Sydney area. @Royalblue. The usually charge 114 but had a special for 1 month of 87. I paid an extra 50$ for the "upgrade". This price includes: Free stain treatment Free mould treatment Free deodorising Pre-vacuum Moving of basic furniture GST another hard lesson learned. Yes, you are right I should read a bit more on the forum so something like this would not happen again. Thanks Anthony. Could another carpet cleaner fix this? Should I ask for a refund?
