Hi gizmoe, Yes, it does feel amazing. Interestingly it is Mohawks exclusive development so will only be available from Mohawk worldwide, not via yarn suppliers or other carpet manufacturers like GH here in Australia. Smartstrand Silk takes the Smartstrand story to a whole new level and will be available to Australian consumers this year. Craig. Word of warning though. Nearly all warranties are for original owners only and void in rental situations!! Doesn't mean it won't perform, just you'll have no warranty normally. I guess they (manufacturers) assume tenants will not care for floors like owner occupied situations!! Since this post was made, the manufacturer changed the warranty on this carpet to specifically extend the warranties on this carpet to landlords. It's the first carpet in the world to keep its warranty in a rental situation and provide assurances to the landlord that their carpet will be looking better for longer and for the tenant to know that their bond will be safe, even of they spill their dinner on the floor now and then There are terms and conditions, like there is with anything these days, so please contact your local store if you require any information on Smartstand and how it protects landlords and tenants. Any U.S. feedback on this? I have specifically looked for info on this and have not been able to find any. It's warranty is for 15 years against significant colour change from UV from memory. Another update. This is also old information. Smartstand is now covered for 25 YEARS against colour loss from both UV and OZONE fading. It's an interesting thing that all other carpets are only covered against UV. If your carpet fades and the manufacturer says it is not from UV, that it is from OZONE, you are not covered. With Smartstrand, if it fades, it fades - no escape clauses on Ozone Fading ! So if you are buying a carpet for colour fastness, then be sure to ask if it's covered for Ozone Fade too as here in Australia we are sitting right under a gigantic hole in the Ozone layer and Ozone Fade is real. But if HN can let me know how to clean it that would be great as my $800.00 Dyson does not seem to work, because the suction is so good it sticks to the backing and you cannot move the vacuum, apparently people have ripped their carpet back up. If someone could let me know if there is a special attachment I could get for my Dyson, as I really do not wish to spend money for another new vacuum Thanks Re: Smartstrand IQ150 "Don't worry it's Smartstrand" 27Feb 14, 2013 7:41 pm +1 My "Silk" is being laid in a couple of weeks. We went for the shorter pile version, so I have my fingers crossed that it will be less of a problem than the long pile. I read by accident a bunch of stuff on American Forums about this problem (after we paid for the carpet!), but the recommended vacuums were brands we cannot get here. Lots of comments about the Dysosn being too good at sucking. I too have a $800 Dyson just purchased from HN and I'm very nervous! Re: Smartstrand IQ150 "Don't worry it's Smartstrand" 28Feb 21, 2013 4:39 am The manufacturers of vacuums are responsible to produce vacuums that meet the current needs of consumers. The worldwide shift to "soft carpets" means that the likelihood of thick soft carpet making it harder to push a powerful vacuum over the floor is on the increase. In saying that, only a tiny amount of feedback, relative to the volume of carpet installed, suggests people have any issue. There's a couple of short term solutions. A) buy a vacuum that works on thick soft carpet by trialling it in your local HN store with your new vacuum of choice and the Silk. B) buy a lower pile height version of Silk with the same softness and same warranties, but a lower pile height (Silk Classic of Peacefool Moods are two ranges that are lower in height). There are also reports that there is a Miele vacuum that works well on the thicker version of Silk (Gentle Essence / Cosy Comfort), but we don't have a model number on hand. Will update as soon as we can. Re: Smartstrand IQ150 "Don't worry it's Smartstrand" 31Jul 16, 2013 5:18 am mirz Can someone tell me estimate price for 33 linear meter with 12mm underlay inc installation for this IQ150 silk? thanks. i believe its 3.6 m wide? how early do we need to order, if we are expecting actual installation around May next year? The price was about $9,700 for that much carpet, 11mm cumulus underlay and professional laying. We say was as technically, the pricing went up yesterday due to the AU$ v the US$. So the price is now about $10,400. What you need to do is go to your local store and order the carpet so you lock in the price as there will be more price rises as the dollar continues to weaken against the greenback. In terms of delivery, if you selected a colour held in stock in America rather than Australia, you'd be looking at 10-12 weeks. We would strongly suggest taking a small deposit of say 10% and putting pen to paper to lock in the old pricing as between now and Feb next year there will be a couple more changes to pricing if the dollar falls more which they say it will. Hi, Whilst Harvey Norman stores are operated by independent franchisees, generally promotions of that type are collectively promoted (IE an advertised special available in all stores). That promotion is NOT running at the moment. In saying that, individual franchisees run ther own businesses so are of course capable of offering you any deals they individually wish to. Sounds like a great deal, best to snap it up What carpet cleaners think about smartstrand! 36Aug 21, 2013 2:07 pm I have spoken to a few carpet cleaners in regards to smartstrand and they say it is very good against stains but the problems they are seeing is stains wicking back up after a carpet clean. This mainly happens on oily type stains and oily soiled areas. They are unsure why but it is becoming a problem for them. Do not get me wrong it is great stuff specially if you drop something on the carpet like soft drinks etc but these oils stains are becoming difficult to remove as they keep reappearing in a few months. Re: Smartstrand IQ150 "Don't worry it's Smartstrand" 37Aug 22, 2013 2:24 pm Thanks Grout Perfect, Smartstrand is indeed a fantastic innovation within the carpet industry. In actual fact, one could argue that it is because it is so revolutionary in terms of stain resistance, that it can be seen by some customers as "bulletproof" and so good that it doesn't require cleaning! Of course, common sense suggests that regardless of the fibre type, that all carpets need regular vacuuming and periodic hot water extraction (steam cleaning) to keep soiling under control and maintain the carpets ability to keep its appearance. In respect to wicking, we will just explain it in depth so readers understand. Wicking is where a spill has gotten past the carpet fibre or through the carpet fibre and settled in the back of the carpet and then "works" its way back up the carpet fibre to re-present itself as a stain, even though the carpet fibre had been initially cleaned. Wicking can present itself in any carpet. It perhaps is brought to attention more so in Smartstrand because the fibre is so good. IE, in a lesser carpet, you wouldn't expect the stain to come out, so you don't discover the wicking issue at all. The Smartstrand warranty specifically states that the fibre will continue to clean and that wick back will clean out with repeated cleaning. There are exclusions to the warranty which include grease and oil spills. It's important to note however, that Smartstrand has LESS exclusions than any other carpet fibre, meaning of all the fibres available, it’s the most backed and most supported by the world’s largest flooring manufacturer, Mohawk Industries of the United States. Warranties are held and supported in Australia by Harvey Norman, one of Australia's largest and most trusted retailers. Back to wicking though. The best way to address wicking is to remove the stain from the backing which will require in some instances multiple cleans and on occasions cleaning the backing (and underlay) too. In some extreme instances, underlay replacement is even required in the affected area. A bit of common sense has to be applied here. The carpet fibre is warranted to clean. It's impossible to put a warranty on wicking as wicking is dependent on the degree of the spill and the amount of water saturating the spill. We recommend customers invest in a small portable water vacuum unit (such as the Bissell Little Green). These are inexpensive and will assist in applying water (only use water and do not use additives) to the spill and then will "suck it back up" so as to not promote dilution. If you can remove a spill in as economical manner as possible (in terms of water consumption), then you limit greatly the degree of potential for wicking, because you have not sent as much water diluted with the spill into the backing. This applies to any carpet and not exclusive to Smartstrand. As Smartstrand is made from 37% corn sugar and 63% polymer, it could be seen to be partly "natural", but its claim to fame in terms of eco credentials is more in its reduced impact on the environment in terms of energy consumption to produce, reduced greenhouse gas emissions during production and of course its extended life cycle over older technologies such as white nylon, all together making it an environmentally sound purchase. It is important for readers of this article to appreciate that the fibre does have its limits though As with any carpet fibre, it doesn't react well with oil, grease and acid based spills. This is a standard exclusion on all carpets and spills of this nature are clearly excluded in the warranty. In respect to soiling, any carpet fibre will have heightened issues when some detergents and oils / creams etc are trafficked onto the carpet and leave a "sticky" residue on the carpet - which in turn creates an ideal environment for dirt and dust to literally stick to the carpet fibre. This is why we recommend a 12 monthly professional steam clean using a Mohawk Industries recommended technician. Interestingly, if we were talking about cars, you don't buy a prestige car and never service it and put cheap petrol in it, and expect it to last.....no. You service it regularly, wash and look after it, use good quality petrol and cherish it. Same should apply to any good quality purchase for our homes. If Smartstrand carpet is looked after and maintained in accordance to the manufacturer’s warranty recommendations, it will be the best carpet anyone could invest in. Could someone else import it to WA if HN are not doing so (it seems to have taken a very long time to get here, considering how popular it is!) We are looking at doing our new home in the next few weeks and really wanted this, but might have to look at other alternatives. Is there a way to find out how to get it in WA? Thanks for your help... Re: Smartstrand IQ150 "Don't worry it's Smartstrand" 40Sep 04, 2013 5:20 am At the moment, Harvey Norman stores in WA do not have flooring products, other than rugs. This may change in the future but we don't know if and when, sorry. You can purchase carpet supply only from your closest store which would be Gepps Cross in Adelaide and put it on a truck or a train though. We have had customers from WA from time to time purchase product in the Eastern States and put the goods on a train or truck, but wouldn't say it was a regular occurrence. It is exclusive in Australia so no one else can buy it or import it from America. Harvey Norman is aware that it needs to offer flooring in WA to our customers there and so hopefully one day we will have an announcement to make, but until then, we cannot assist further ! Best wishes for your project. CALL 1300GOHARVEY www.harveynormanflooring.com.au Carpet, Rugs, Timber, Bamboo, Laminate, Vinyl & Vinyl Tiles TIMBERMAX Real Australian Hardwood Flooring IN STORES NOW |
