Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 03, 2007 11:54 am It's funny that every time I tell someone I wont be using glue, they're amazed and advise against it (not that they're experts). So often that it concerns me now.
I'm installing it in all the bedrooms, living room, and rumpus. These aren't areas where I should be worried about water spillage, but I know it's bound to happen. Should I be concerned with liquid seeping into the joints? Thanks Re: No Glue Laminate Flooring 2Oct 03, 2007 12:24 pm I happen to be one of those non-experts. But just curiuos as to why you're not using glue? [sneakersss] Re: No Glue Laminate Flooring 4Oct 03, 2007 12:58 pm Oh right. You're having one of those click laminate flooring as opposed to the others that just have a tongue and groove system?
Either way (and still no expert) I think the glue would be more for the purposes of securing it further rather than acting as a seal?! So if one was really worried about spills on the floor and it seeping through then maybe sealing the actual floor would be the best option. Then we thought of our dog! She rarely does it but sometimes we do come home/wake up and she's done it inside.
Anyway I found something promising last night called Click Seal. It's applied like glue at the joints during installation. Unlike glue it's not permanent, so you can still unclick the floor for whatever reason. Re: No Glue Laminate Flooring 7Oct 04, 2007 10:13 am I've asked this question so many times (to people that are in the profession as well), to glue or not to glue, & about 80 % say to go with the click lock / uni lock (no glue) system if laying on a slab.
The main reason for this is if you ever get a damaged board for what ever reason, chipped / warped / water damaged, you can pull them apart easily & replace the damaged board/s. If they are glued this is virtually impossible to do. With the systems on the market these days, the non glued method is just as good if not better that the glued. Cheers, Mike. That's a good point too. If I was bothered enough, I think I would unclick and replace. If not, I'm sure my other half will make me. Sam There is a much stronger glue than liquid nails. It's called T Rex and will stick your timber to the concrete.
