Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 17, 2010 12:44 pm My dilemma is not being able to find a large GREEN wool rug, 3mt x 3mt, which isn't going to cost a bomb There seem to be lots more which are smaller. What would you think about buying 2 smaller rugs & using them in the same area, with the join under the coffee table? IN other words have the longer edges butted up against each other ? This is a 155cmx245cm rug ( not necessarily the same design) - when butted up against another the same size, the finished area would be 310cm x 245cm. Standard size rugs don't fit our space. The option I've come up with is this. I'm goin to get some carpet cut to size and then have it overlocked (is that the right word??) around the sides so that it looks like a rug. Carpet is generally 3.6m wide so for big spaces it's a good option. I've quickly checked out prices for shag and also some of the patterned carpets and the cost of getting them finished off... and it is quite cost effective in comparison to rugs. End of rolls from clearance places would make it even better. Sorry, I'm not actually answering your question. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I think it's a great alternative......now why didn't I think of htat . I"ll definitely look at this option Jo & 3.6 is the perfect size ! Thank you Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Using 2 Smaller Rugs in lieu of 1 large one 4Jul 17, 2010 4:31 pm You probably didn't think of that because by the time you get to our point in the process what's left of our brains is It's hard work this building! Broadloom carpet cut to size and overlocked is a cost effective solution. They usually will cut a radius at the corners, as otherwise the corners may tend to curl a bit. But you could join rugs if you were happy with that look. They could be joined by a carpet layer if you wanted to join them permanently. But finding a carpet and having it finished to size is the best way to go. A tip: Ask the overlocking place what yarn they have. Some may only have polypropylene yarn, which will tend to soil up sooner then the carpet. If you have wool carpet, ask for wool yarn to be used, if nylon, ask for nylon yarn. Ash. As Joles said, getting remnants from a warehouse sale can be a great saving, but you rely on finding a remnant the correct size. You said green. What are you looking for? Style, plain or pattern? Formal, classic or contemporary, etc?? Any thoughts? Remember, quality rugs are usually woven. You can get broadloom woven carpet. Wiltons are beautiful. Here's a plain green wilton for example.... http://www.brintons.net/residential/au/ ... petDetails Re: Using 2 Smaller Rugs in lieu of 1 large one 9Jul 17, 2010 9:35 pm A custom make in pure nz wool, in any colour, any design, will be about $2250 with a 12 week turn around. If you went an axi, you could get it down to a grand to fifteen hundred (Laura Ashley Brintons for example). A cheap carpet though could be as low as $100 -$150 plus binding costs. Your choice. You said you like the idea of a pattern. Most 'normal' carpets are made by the tufting process. There are limitations with tufting, as most are plain. You can get some tufted carpets with subtle patterns in the texture, but usually in a plain colour. Weaving allows for a wide range of colours and styles, making some magnificent carpets. Woven carpets are much dearer, but if you find a store that sells remnants of commercial carpets, you may be able to get a nice Wilton or Axminster. Ash. Re: Using 2 Smaller Rugs in lieu of 1 large one 14Jul 18, 2010 5:44 pm Oh Ash this one!!! Like Jo, I love this pattern! the colour is difficult to ascertain, but I'm still after green, ideally a soft light green not dark, bottle or olive. In actual fact, most Brintons we sell is for rugs! The odd house here and there, usually via insurance claims. Fantastic carpet. Call Brintons and ask who. Most of us (like me) order in to the CM what we need. A rem roll of 2-3 metres could in theory waste $500 of profit on a job, so most ppl will not have "left overs".... Re: Using 2 Smaller Rugs in lieu of 1 large one 16Jul 18, 2010 5:50 pm I would suggest finding a nice carpet you like and ordering that carpet in the size you want. Then you better check that they do over locking in that carpet store so they can do the edges for you. That’s what I would do in my Carpet Court store.
