Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 30, 2010 10:45 pm Hi all, need your feedback. I have moved in about 15 months now and have recently discovered my dishwasher has been leaking water due to the timber installer not connecting the dishwasher back properly after the timbers were installed underneath it. The water has gone through my kitchen floorboard. There are now stain patches even small cracks. I have contacted my installer and they told me floating floorboard is hard to take out because once you take out one part it will damage nearby sections of the floor. So, I will need to replace the timber floor for the whole house. And they also said that it won't look good if old and new timber are mixed. Can someone tell me from their experience, is it true that silkwood timber floor can't be partly replaced? Re: silkwood floating floorboard 2Apr 30, 2010 10:51 pm From memory (haven't checked for any updates ), one of the features of floating floor is that "damaged boards can be replaced". These guys just don't want to fiddle with it. No way you'll have to replace the whole floor !! What was the method of installation? Did they glue boards in between (in the t&g area)? Was there any nailing at all? BTW, how is Silkwood performing otherwise? What timber species is it? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: silkwood floating floorboard 3Apr 30, 2010 11:55 pm Yes, only glue was used. Its boral tassie oak. Very nice but easy to scratch. Got a two side fridge and had to change water filter behind the fridge against the wall few months ago. Even though the fridge has wheels it still caused few scratches which is quiet noticeable. Should have got tiles esp. in kitchen wet area. Joe Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. If you haven't sorted this already you need to caulk this gap. Not sure where you are but if you are in Sydney I can… 5 4352 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6162 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 3012 |
