Re: Bamboo Flooring 2Apr 30, 2010 9:00 am I love bamboo flooring, more specifically strand woven bamboo flooring. It is super strong, looks great and is environmentally friendly (bamboo grows much quicker than any other timber). I purchased mine direct from China and the cost is less than $35sqm. I purchased the Unilin click system so it's a DIY install. I will have mine in around 6 weeks or so and I'll put up some pictures. I opted for the natural colour with a semi gloss finish. I just picked up two samples of Bamboo flooring from our local carpet choice. It is labelled "arc" Uniclic Bamboo strand woven. Carpet choice have it in their May-June catalogue for $75 per square metre plus installation (which they are thinking about another $25). It looks really good although they have only 2 colours, natural and coffee. At $100 p m2 laid I think this is a really good option! One thing I am concerned about was something the guy in the shop had read in another supplier of bamboo floorings laying guide and it says humidity needs to be kept within 30-55%. That wouldn't be possible without a humidifier where we live. We are yet to find out whether the "arc" brand has similar needs but just wondering if this is typical for all bamboo floors? handmick What do people think of it? Is anyone going to install it? Has anyone got pictures of colours? What about prices? Mick- here is a link to Haze blog, he has it laid.... looks awesome! http://hazehome.blogspot.com/2009/09/ba ... oring.html Emohruo We are going with 130mm wide Bamboo Strandwoven board in Coffee. I am also looking into this because we have a 7,5 and 2 1/2 yo and it seems to be a really hard wearing floor. The other option we are considering is vinyl planks which are costing us $83 m2 laid so a little bit more would be worth the extra money for a gorgeous floor like this! Looking forward to more comments in this thread! Re: Bamboo Flooring 12May 06, 2010 8:38 am GSK The above quote is for 10mm thick. I'm going with 14mm and wouldn't personally go any thinner. I agree. We have just put down 60m2, Highland satin finish. No pics as the fllor is still covered with dropsheets and what have you. Great material, super hard, environmentally friendly, look great and probably slightly less expensive than sold timbers. But you get what you pay for. We looked around a lot. The cheaper, thinner options tend to be very springy and prone to quite significant gapping over time. Go for 14mm strandwoven. Your floor is not an area I would be looking to save money on. Look to pay in the region of $80 per m2 plus $25 to lay. Make sure you get 5mm underlay. Do it right and you should get 25 years out of this floor. Yes it is very important that you get 4 way lock, otherwise gapping can be significant. Also be aware there are bevilled edges and square edges. Make sure you get the one you want (we went square edged). Re: Bamboo Flooring 19May 07, 2010 3:43 pm Rowena GSK I love bamboo flooring, more specifically strand woven bamboo flooring. I had to pay $1USD a sqm more for this. There are many factories in China that provide bamboo flooring (as far as I know, almost all the bamboo flooring in the world comes from China). The price is generally around $18 - $22USD/sqm. You then just need to speak to a customs broker to take care of shipping of the goods, duties, GST, fumigation if necessary, etc. etc. It may sound daunting but the customer brokers do this as a job so they know what needs to be done. I use either www.alibaba.com or www.made-in-china.com to find my suppliers. Search for bamboo floor suppliers and ask questions. Sometimes a white lie doesn't go astray (eg. I am just after 100sqm's as a sample order and next order I will place for a 20' FCL (20ft. full container load). I collected samples from around 5-6 factories and chose the one that I was the most happiest with in quality, price and customer service. My order should be finished around the 15th of May and I should have it early June. I'll be sure to post up pictures once the order is received and installed. The above can apply to anything that you find on these Chinese websites. I had a friend import 2 saunas for his personal use, flooring, bath tubs, sinks, and what ever else you can think of. Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer.
