Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 20, 2007 11:32 pm In my quest for the ideal floor, I wonder if polished concrete floor is the one.
It appears to offer good appearance and low maintenance. Has anyone used, or know someone that has used, polished concrete floors? My questions are: 1) Does it look nice? 2) Does it require much, if any, maintenance 3) Is it prone to cracking, eventually. The couple would have to have been in the 60’s; they had the BEST polished concrete floor I had ever seen! The guys who did it came from Canberra, thats a 3 hour + drive to where I live. I was really impressed with the quality of this floor!!! On another note… I have done a couple of other homes and their floor turned out quite bad! Must add here, flooring had nothing to do with me!!!! My advice to you is, if you are thinking of doing this…..get the best at it! It really is harder to achieve than what most people think. 1) Does it look nice? Done properly….it looks fantastic! 2) Does it require much, if any, maintenance? Next to none! 3) Is it prone to cracking, eventually? If it is not done right …YES, if your slab is not done right….YES also! No idea about maintenance/longevity, but I think I've heard that they are the best type of floor to have hydronic / slab heating underneath. Good if this is also on your wish list!
