Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 23, 2010 4:59 pm I am planning to lay vinyl planks on my floor but am so confuse with all the brands out there. I was thinking of Kardean but it's quite expensive. I was put on a brand called Gerflor (french company). Has anyone heard of this. I saw a sample and it looks good and a resonable price. Somtimes wonder if we are just paying for the brand name. Any suggestion. Re: vinyl planks - gerflor 2Apr 24, 2010 5:34 pm I called a rellie who does this for a living. He says Karndean scratches very easy. You have to have clear sealers over them to reduce that but the sealers present their own problems. He won't use it. Gerfloor is good for the money but prefers not to use it. He uses Polyfloor and swears by it. He's had it ten years in his house and it still looks as good as the day it went down. The batches have excellent uniformity too. all his work is done with Polyfloor planks. Re: vinyl planks - gerflor 4May 04, 2010 1:51 pm Hi there We are getting the Gerflor Vinyl planks for our new house....we have chosen the Redpine colour but after having another look on the weekend now we are thinking maybe the Honeygum colour! It is so hard to imagine it over a large space! Has anybody installed either colour and can you please tell me whether you are happy with it or not please!! I would post both colours but the computer representation of them doesn't show what they are like at all! Thanks! Re: vinyl planks - gerflor 5May 08, 2010 3:52 pm I have decided to go with the Gerflor Casa Natura - Iron Bark, it's similar to the Karndean Art select - Winter Oak. That's why we choose it. The Karndean is just to pricey. Mostly I think you are just paying for the brand name. I will be installing 6mm cork from Acousta Cork (for insulation) finished with Masonite. Re: vinyl planks - gerflor 6May 15, 2010 6:29 pm Actually, you are paying for quality. Prices of PVC planks are calculated more on the thickness of the wear layer, the presence of an Aluminum Oxide coating and very importantly the amount of filler used between the surface and the base sheet of PVC. Karndean and Amtico are the two "big boys" in the lvt market. Followed distantly by Gerfloor and others like Polyfloor etc. Gerfloor is mainly known for sheet vinyl in Australia. I am not familiar with the product you are talking about, it may well be fantastic ! It's just that I wouldn't say you are paying extra for the Karndean name. In relation to sealers. The concept is that it acts as a sacrificial wear layer....an insurance policy. If you scratch your floor, you don't scratch the PVC, you scratch the polymer off that you have previously applied. But anyway. Good luck with your floor !!! PS. There is a floating PVC plank that you don't need to glue down, don't need to hire expensive layers for (it's brilliantly easy to lay). It comes with a lifetime wear warranty in residential applications. It's called Allure. Cost is 49 a m2, but you save a fortune in floor prep and laying costs, so it is the most cost effective lvt on the market by a country mile!!! Email me if you need more info or google it etc. Re: vinyl planks - gerflor 7Aug 30, 2014 2:00 pm Resurrecting a really old thread... Has anyone had experience with Gerfloor? Had a look at a vintage look vinyl at bunnings the other day and it looks good. Our first choice is a laminate from hn but not sure if they will still be in stock by the time we are ready (8 - 9 months) Here is a photo of the gerfloor option: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And the hn laminate Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: vinyl planks - gerflor 8Oct 17, 2014 11:45 pm anthony_carter Actually, you are paying for quality. Which vinyl planks available in Australia have the Aluminium Oxide coating? and which ones would you recommend? Re: vinyl planks - gerflor 9Oct 25, 2014 10:34 pm I'm tossing up between Harvey Norman flooring (allure) and Godfrey Hurst vinyl planks. Both are 0.5mm wear layer. Allure claims Ceramic bead coating whilst Godfrey Hurst claims polyurethane with ceramic bead. Are these the same thing, or is there such a thing as just ceramic bead? Re: vinyl planks - gerflor 10Oct 26, 2014 6:11 pm We installed the Gerflor antique vinyl planks in the man cave downstairs and are very happy with them.
