Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 23, 2010 1:24 am Hi all, i just wanted to share some pics of our solid hard wood floors which were installed this week. (I have also posted these on my thread in the kitchen forum so apologies in advance for the double up) I conducted plenty of research for many weeks prior to going ahead with the flooring type and the successful company. I am yet to have the floor sanded and polished but for those interested we are going for a water based satin finish. We removed the skirting boards prior to the install, and although i had intended to cut down my doors, the floor installer was nice enough to do this for me free of charge and put the doors back on too. Installation of the floor was onto a concrete slab. The slab was uneven and i had a concrete polisher come in prior to make the slab level by grinding it down. This cost me $400 in the end and was insisted on by the flooring company. When the floor layers came in, first a plastic membrane was layed before 12mm ply was bolted to the slab and finally 14mm hardwood secret nailed and glued over the top. The timber we went for is called 'Wormy Chestnut' and is sometimes also called 'Fire Streak.' It is a mix of hardwoods from Gippsland (messmate, silvertop and cut-tail). I am looking forward to the kitchen being installed and the floors being sanded and polished. Until then, here are the pics: Carpet coming up and a peek at the old kitchen Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Tiling coming up Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen coming out Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Concrete slab Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Pile of wood sitting on top of the ply which is now installed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen before boards are installed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen afterwards Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wood detail closeup Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Floor main area Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cheers, Re: My floor is in :) 2Apr 23, 2010 9:09 am That look sensational.
