Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 22, 2010 6:35 pm Hi all, I am still undecided on if we should have tiles or floorboards in the new place. If we go floorboards we want something with a gloss finish. Im going to head to a specialist timber flooring place on the weekend, but in the meantime i have found these distressed timber floorboards at a local carpet shop. They have done us quite a good price and im liking the look of them but just wondered what others thought. I have to keep in mind that this place will be an investment property in about 4-5 years time and so thought i would see what others thought of them, also if anyone has used them before. My thinking was that if they were already the distressed look that any wear and tear from the kids would be less noticeable, however that could be completely wrong. They come in a few colours but we are looking at the more grolden brown coloured ones, not the light ones. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So what do you think?? Especially uniformity of the pattern of the larger boards... ... built a Promenade with Clarendon. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25104 20-10-09 - excavation and piering completed ... 12-04-10 - Basins fixed. Re: Distressed timber flooring - what do you think? 3Apr 22, 2010 8:06 pm I love timber And IMO, the whole point of timber is that its not uniform - its a natural product My advice would be not to go full gloss - you will notice every little scratch, hair, mark.... semi gloss is gorgeous though As for the colour, if you have a "dark" house, then I would try not to go too dark with the flooring Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: Distressed timber flooring - what do you think? 5Apr 22, 2010 10:04 pm mickve - You got it!! That is exactly were the pic is from. The picture doesnt look to good but i would put that down to my very bad photo taking skills haha. Its good to hear that it looks good in houses, i just wish you could see these things in huge amounts, its so hard choosing off tiny samples. Carpet stores should take pics of all the jobs they do to show clients in future. Bam - Thanks for your reply, yep will definately go at least a semi-gloss. Also good luck for the upcoming birth of your little one, such an exciting time. Cant wait to hear all about it on here and of course see at least one pic! ebyelyakov - Thanks for the reply, still looking so will pop some more pics on before i make my decision and hopefully get some more thoughts. Thanks, V Re: Distressed timber flooring - what do you think? 6Apr 23, 2010 3:16 pm yeah, maybe it was just a picture And I support the opinion about not going gloss - it looks great on the pictures in magazines but the practical side of it well.. doubtful Still, do not thing that the transitions between the lighter and darker boards looked very smooth ... built a Promenade with Clarendon. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25104 20-10-09 - excavation and piering completed ... 12-04-10 - Basins fixed. Re: Distressed timber flooring - what do you think? 7Apr 23, 2010 3:37 pm ebyelyakov - Sorry im not sure how to use that quote thing, but the difference in the colour of the boards is to show you the different colours available, your actual floor wont look all multicoloured like that. Is that what you mean about being uniform??? I like the colour of the boards in the middle, the golden ones, not the light ones at the bottom of the pic or the flater brown coloured ones at the top. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15886 No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6626 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6174 |
