Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 16, 2010 7:29 pm Hi I am planning on putting in floating laminates (quickstep) into my apartment. I am also currently renovating my kitchen. I was wondering whether someone could confirm - does it matter that my floors go down before the benchtop? I was told that I should wait for the benchtop should go in first before the floors as the installation of the quartzstone benchtop will be really dusty? Any help hugely appreciated!! Re: Floors after everything is finished? 2Apr 16, 2010 8:17 pm Doesnt matter just protect the floor with some carpet upside down or something incase they drop something the dust wont hurt floors.Dont try and protect floor with plastic as you will damage the floor. Handy tip there Mick! Upside down carpet is a very useful safeguard to any hard floors when renos or fitting of heavy stuff is involved. Aren't carpets just the greatest!!! Ash. Re: Floors after everything is finished? 4Apr 19, 2010 10:30 pm Thanks for the advice. Sorry have another question (newbie at all this), but my kitchen is currently going into the apartment, and although I am not putting quickstep in the kitchen, because I am in an open layout apartment, the breakfast bench side will meet with the floors. Should I leave the kickboard off the side that will meet with the floors, or it wont make much difference to the tradie lays the floors? Hope that makes sense Re: Floors after everything is finished? 5Apr 20, 2010 11:24 pm If you mean leaving the kick board on the floating floor side off, then yes. The reason is that a scotia will have to put on where the F/F finishes to the breakfast bar if you don't. You have to decide whether you want a scotia all around the breakfast bar, to balance the floor/bar finish, or none at all. Have fun with the kitchen installers getting them to come back to put the kickplate on after the flooring is done, if you don't wish to have a scotia around the breakfast bar interesting situation what happened after builder issued final invoice? did you list as defect or not does the building surveyor have any responsibility? ie. issuing… 13 46965 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
