Usually they are painted before the carpet goes down and they will get knocked around a little from the carpet layers which is a standard thing but are then touched up by the painter afterwards. From reading the previous post, this seems to be the norm. When doing a new build I have been told that the carpet is one of the last things to be done. Re: Skirting on b4 or after carpet gets laid?? 7Apr 13, 2010 11:15 am A good layer will install carpets without damage to skirtings. But having said that, some carpets can be a mongrel to work with and even a good layer might cause some marks or knocks here & there. But that is the layers' responsibility to fix, so shouldn't be your worry. Inspect all skirtings before the layer goes, and make sure there's no marks first. Then inspect after the carpets are installed and if any probs, let them know. Ash. There is no need to do this. The problem can arise that when the skirting is finally secured, that it can pull away from the carpet slightly. Far better to have it full fixed in place to start with. IMHO Re: Skirting on b4 or after carpet gets laid?? 10Apr 15, 2010 6:58 pm I agree with Mark S have it fully fixed to start with. Then when the carpets go in they get tucked under the skiting. This gives the neatest look and the full height of your skirting is visible. I have no problem with this [ I use a PS ] , but if the carpet is just kicked in, it is more likely to come off the smoothedge in the future. When the skirting is to the floor, the carpet is held better, as it is jammed between smoothedge and skirting. It will help it stay on the pins.
