Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 41Jun 06, 2010 8:50 pm ps. Originally I preferred the idea of gloss but figured satin would be more practical. However I saw the floor after the 2nd coat of gloss, and now the final appearance with the 3rd coat (satin), and have to say I love the satin compared to gloss so it all worked out well in the end. The satin feels so nice underfoot, gloss is kind of sticky in bare feet from other floors I've walked on. Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 42Jun 07, 2010 7:58 am It's stunning, Bbb, good choice! I really like the gloss level - there is just enough of it and it's not dull. So, to recap the finish: Polycure Durapol polyurethane. - The first coat was Polycure sealer, think it was 3030 fastseal or something like that. This should stop edge bonding and appears to be especially recommended for woods like spotted gum. - Then a coat of Polycure gloss, - Then a coat of satin My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... As an oil based, it will darken a little with age but that's ok. Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 44May 02, 2011 10:20 am Bbb Here's the photos of the finished job. Any smudge marks are from me kissing it or drooling on it. ps. do you like the kitchen? Thinking of putting in a pale blue type glass splashback to finish it off. Was it more difficult to install than it would have been with first grade timber for example? b3 Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 45May 02, 2011 11:32 am I didn't do the job the flooring company did it so can't say if it was more difficult or not. There are 3 places where under pressure, natural faults in the timber (eg vein lines) have caused part of a board to rise up/pop up a little bit. I've got a little bit of peaking happening everywhere after all the wet weather we've had the last 5 months as well... Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 46May 27, 2011 6:19 pm CSR's (hebel manufacturer) instructions say that plywood has to be glued with max bond fast grip and screwed onto hebel.
However, it doesn't say how much glue to apply. Fuller's (glue manufacturer) recommend 1kg of fast grip per square metre. This sounds very excessive to me. What do you think? By the way, I've spoken to a few installers and some say they trowel it all over the hebel and some only put a dab of glue in each corner of the sheet. Very confused as to what to do Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 47May 27, 2011 7:55 pm Yep, you'll get a lot of different opinions and procedures with timber floor, plus there are some differences b/w the states too. Maybe you can call the glue and/or hebel manufacturer? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 48May 27, 2011 8:09 pm Thanks lex. I already have. The glue manufacturer reckons I need 1kg of glue per square metre :s Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 49May 27, 2011 8:24 pm Ah, you've already said it! Next best thing - what the isntaller said. Trowel on with a standard timber trowel (from memory, 3mm??) and as he said, on the sensitive corners just to be sure. Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 50May 27, 2011 8:28 pm Troweling all over will work out to 1kg per sqm (glue manufacturers estimate) Does that sound excessive? Re: Queensland Timber Flooring & Installation Techniques 52May 28, 2011 4:16 pm Hardware stores only sell 300gr and 500gr tubes. It will take forever to squeeze out 200 tubes. Doh! Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15908 1 10482 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
