Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 25, 2010 12:14 pm Hi, I'm after some advice as to what the standard/best way to raise the floor height in my bedroom. I'm ripping up the old carpet and laying floating floorboards throughout the house, but the height of the bedroom is slightly lower than the hall ways. Has anyone had experience in doing this, should i lay plywood down before the floating floor boards? if so, what is best method? Thanks in advance Huntr Re: Advice Needed-How to raise bedroom floor height 3Mar 25, 2010 1:15 pm What is the current subfloor under the carpet? If it is concrete deploying a plywood subfloor before laying the timber floor is strongly recommended... However, I fail to understand how it is possible for floor to be thinker than timber as the "standard" thickens of floorboards is 19 mm (the minimum is 13?) ... built a Promenade with Clarendon. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25104 20-10-09 - excavation and piering completed ... 12-04-10 - Basins fixed. It is the bottom floor of a townhouse, so i suspect it will be concrete. Currently there is carpet in the bedrooms and tiles in the hall way and living. Currently the level between the carpet and tiles is broadly even, but when i remove the carpet and under lay i susepect there will be a height difference between the bedroom subfloor and the tiles in hallway (which i will lay floating boards directly onto). I suspect the thickness difference is prob 10mm-20mm as a guess? Re: Advice Needed-How to raise bedroom floor height 5Mar 25, 2010 4:56 pm There are different mouldings being increasers/decreasers to achieve smooth transition between different floor areas - try researching on the Internet - there are quite a few ways to accomplish this I think I will use something like this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ when transitioning between timber and wet areas where difference is going to be 20 mm... Downstairs I'm going to use a 15 mm plywood subfloor and therefore, the difference between wet areas and the floor will be just 6 mm - so will leave it as it... ... built a Promenade with Clarendon. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25104 20-10-09 - excavation and piering completed ... 12-04-10 - Basins fixed.
