Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 24, 2010 3:49 pm Hi all, We are wanting to lay a strand woven bamboo floor in our extension. So the majority will be onto the concrete slab and a small amount over existing old floorboards. Depending on who I speak to, I am getting conflicting advice on the best way to lay the floor. Either: 1) - seal the concrete slab and then direct stick, or 2) - lay an underlay and lay difrect over the top Which way is best????????? Thanks in advance. Cheers Jane Re: Conflicting advice on laying a bamboo floor 3Mar 24, 2010 6:42 pm My personal opinion after reading plenty on this subject is that secret nailing to a plywood subfloor installed on top of a moisture barrier is the most efficient method.. I have not researched properties of bamboo flooring but if installing over concrete was the only option available to me I'd limit my choice to 13 mm slim parquetry being Spotted Gum Tallowwood or similar.. ... built a Promenade with Clarendon. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25104 20-10-09 - excavation and piering completed ... 12-04-10 - Basins fixed. Re: Conflicting advice on laying a bamboo floor 4Mar 24, 2010 8:07 pm We've visited several places on Melb that specialise in bamboo flooring (bamboo select etc) and they both advocate that laying it on underlay is the best method. It also feels better to walk on. Re: Conflicting advice on laying a bamboo floor 5Mar 24, 2010 8:59 pm Thanks for your replies. I think the underlay method might be best anyway due to part being laid over floorboards....Need to do a bit more investigating! Has anyone installed bamboo with the underlay? If so, did it sound hollow underfoot?
