Re: what timber is this? 3Mar 24, 2010 9:42 am Maybe a bit of a weird suggestion, but is it even all the same timber? It looks like they have created a box shape around the lounge and then shaped it around this in concentric rectangles - possibly of different timbers in sections, as there is a real red colour in there (maybe jarrah), but also pale sections at the front like a beech type wood. Otherwise, spotted gum has a lot of colour variation in it. Very interesting way they have laid the floorboards. Re: what timber is this? 4Mar 24, 2010 11:49 am Could be Northern Beech ( a Mix of austalian hardwoods) or spotted gum. Re: what timber is this? 5Mar 24, 2010 11:57 am To mee looks pretty much like Spotted Gum... Nathan SteelFab Maybe because one direction did not work considering the dimensions of the rooms? Running boards along the longest wall parallel to the windows (as we can see on the picture) makes perfect sense and produces the very right feeling. However, we do not know what is to the right from the chairs. The could be a long hallway towards another window or the entrance and having floorboards laid perpendicular to it (i.e. continuing the direction from the long side) would make it looking very and very ugly and stupid, at least judged by my humble and very subjective taste. The change of the direction, IMO, was done in a very smart way and is a feature itself.. But I'm not sure… 3 6111 The most likely cause of your timber swelling (parquetry?) is either a plumbing leak or carelessly leaving water on floors after use or both.
