Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering Re: Which Acoustic Underlay for Timber Floors 21May 15, 2010 5:22 pm You may well be right. In body Corp situations and multi level dwellings etc, you need the acoustic test reports to "prove" you have done the right thing by the other people who live in the building. That comes from flooring pro's, not hardware stores! Re: Which Acoustic Underlay for Timber Floors 22May 16, 2010 8:44 am Just some more info. I cant remember the thread I saw it in, but just to be clear. The Field Impact Isolation Class or FIIC is as the name implies a test ON SITE in the real world, rather than in a lab. It is deemed the most accurate measurement of the sound transfer from upstairs to downstairs. You need a minimum standard to comply with the Building Code of Australia 2007 - this is in respect to multi-level dwellings occupied by other people (other than your own family). So if you have a 2 story house you dont have to use it, but if you live in a high rise you do The HIGHER the FIIC number the better. Silent Shield when used in conjunction with a 7mm HPL Laminate achieves 56. Silent Shield when used in conunction with an 8mm HPL Laminate achieves 59. Silent Shield when used in conjunction with a 14mm engineered timber floor achieves 57. The underlay must also achieve a result of not more than 62 in another IMPACT NOISE measurement (a bit techincal) that is Lnw + c1 = your result. I am not an expert on this measurement procedure, BUT I do know the pass mark is 62 (or less - the lower the better in this case). Silent Shield gets a 46 - 49 depending on the surface treatment (the type of board you are laying). Under normal circumstances it is only a small premium to step up to this underlay from a standard foam/moisture barrier combo underlay. I tend to upgrade free of charge for most of my customers, if they need it. Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7945 Hi l plan to install a self adhesive vinyl plank floor. l first need to attach masonite boards underlay to by plywood subfloor of my house. What size nails and how many… 0 8378 Jimbo73 I would use heaps of adhesive on each sheet and screw rather than nail. use as many as you like cheers Simeon 1 4074 |
