I find that advice you provide is absolutely fantastic , and I'm gonna hassle you for more
I don't quite understand why are there so many warnings not to use solvent based polyurethanes on new floors, in relation to edge bonding, when sealers will prevent edge bonding anyway ?! Unless it was happening in the old days and the various manuals never got updated?? ... Or, is it still risky and how?
As for cost - very roughly :
Hardwax Oils (two coats) $7 per sqm finished
Water based Poly (three coats - incl primer) $6 per sqm finished
Solvent based Poly (three coats - incl primer) $3 per sqm finished
namtrak, did you mean this cost per coat, or all up? For example, does $7 for Hardwax oil pay for both coats, or is it actually $14 for both coats?
I was also told that tallowwood, being an oily timber, doesn't take some finishes well - and today someone mentioned that it doesn't take Hardwax Oils!!! - but you seem to use it wiht no problems?? Which exact product name it is?? There is a very long list on their site
Also, had a read through the Treatex web site ... seems to be a few loose ends, almost lost in translation! Looks like applying the Hardwax Oils is very tricky and only for professionals?? With what does one apply it?! They say "brush it on with cotton cloth" - by hand???
