And I don't think it would show the dirt much at all. The whiteish lines will hide things pretty well - sure a bit of dust with that lighting will show up pretty quickly but a dust mop will fix it pretty quickly. Check here for the sort of timber you think it is. http://www.borthwickfloors.com.au/timber-types.html Steve Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 5Aug 27, 2007 7:39 pm Thanks Steve...and for the link! Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 6Aug 28, 2007 8:44 am G'day Touchingcloth.
If you couldn't work out that actual type of timber flooring check out this link.. http://www.woodworkforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=77 I've had a similar question & posted a pic on their site & they were very helpful. BTW, love the colour! Cheers, Mike. Keep us informed if you find out, i love the colour and definitely love the gloss finish. We had that in our last place on red ironbark. Didn't really notice the dust and dirt. The gloss finish is magic though. Love the real stuff..... Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 8Aug 28, 2007 7:08 pm I'd go with Qld Spotted Gum ( NSW Spotty is lighter)
I could be wrong its a pretty poor photo as far as the floor goes. I found this pic on realestate.com.au Did a search in Point Cook over $400K Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 11Sep 12, 2007 9:51 pm Hey touchingcloth, i can't sit by and not help you out.
I checked the website you found the picture on and found the house in Pt. Cook. I have spoken with the real estate agent today and they are looking into it for me. I'll let you know if i hear anything from them. By the way the house has been sold. Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 13Oct 02, 2007 1:36 pm Hi there, i rang them a few times, still have not heard. Obvious...I'm not buying a house from them so don't bother wasting their time......
Good luck with the tiles though..... Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 14Oct 02, 2007 5:37 pm Looking at the grain I think it may just be dark stained Victorian Ash (ie. Eucalyptus nitens, E. regnans - hate the use of those timber marketing names! ). Have seen a bit of this around lately in higher end developments. Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 15Oct 03, 2007 7:30 pm Victorian Ash is a single species, your getting confused with Tasmanian Oak which is generally a mix of 3-4 Ash species plus 1 stringybark species.
The floor is definately not Vic Ash - it has far too much grain variation. Also a stain will generally give an even tone on a light even grained/toned species such as Vic Ash Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 16Oct 04, 2007 5:52 pm Sorry about the E. nitens slip up, got it on the brain (Alpine Ash = E. delegatensis).
Victorian Ash can be either Mountain Ash or Alpine Ash, or a mix of the two, plus a bit of Messmate may be thrown in depending on the mill (in-laws have a "Vic Ash" floor with about 25% Messmate - nice, but not the dictionary definition of Vic Ash!). I just see some backsawn boards and a bit of variation. Actually looking at timber floors this weekend - will keep an eye out for some stained Vic Ash or Tassie Oak. Out of interest, Vic Ash with a chocolate stain: http://www.barklafurniture.com.au/Page10.html Re: Can anyone tell me what type of floor this is please? 17Oct 04, 2007 7:18 pm Tassie Oak is a mix of , Alpine Ash, Mountain Ash and Messmate Stringybark. ( Eucalyptus delegatensis / Eucalyptus regnans / Eucalyptus obliqua) Vic Ash ( mix ) should not contain Stringybark by rights. As you said the mix can vary from different mills.
As you can see from your link, a stained finish on that type of timber gives you different shades of the one colour, not different colours as such. Timber names for marketing/sales can be confusing - some are mixed species and some are single species, some are given more 'marketable' names such as 'New England Oak' which to most horticulturalists/botanists is a Manna Gum. People are often surprised when you tell them their "Tassie Oak' kitchen isn't actually 'Oak' its just a bunch of blonde Eucalypts. 1 354 Natural stone tiles like slate, travertine, and limestone add a timeless, elegant look to… 0 24510 2 4181 |
