Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 09, 2010 10:43 am I just recieved a quote for Jarrah floorboards throughout my new house, which I'm more than happy with. Just a couple of quick questions, as I cant get hold of the guy who is doing the work (hes gone overseas for the week) He asked if I wanted him to supply and install 'display bead' ...what is this? Is this like a little skirting? He also asked if I'd prefer to go 'direct stick' or 'plank on ply'. I understand what this means, but I'm not sure what the better option would be for me? Its a brand new house, so its just bare concrete there at the moment. Any advice?? (sorry if these questions sound a little dumb, but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to these sorts of things! ) Building 'The Kingston' (with 'Boston' elevation) through Blueprint Homes in Hocking, Perth **PCI complete 06.02.10** My Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17607 Re: Questions on Floorboards... 2Feb 09, 2010 5:03 pm Dont know about the first Q but I was told definately on ply when we got ours done. We just had a slab also. You would have to make allowances tho as ours ended up being 34mm above the slab and had to raise the tiles and to match. Raising the tiles meant we had to allow for the kitchen to be raised also. Re: Questions on Floorboards... 3Mar 08, 2010 1:22 am hello The display beading (Normal just beading) is used to cover the expansion gap.Now if you have concrete floor then you just use direct stick because you don`t want it to sound hollow. Also have you every considered Compressed bamboo which is twice as hard as jarrah and is pre finished also so would be cheaper, and is a lot more stable so you wont get the gaps over the years with like you do with jarrah. marcus marcus Re: Questions on Floorboards... 4Mar 08, 2010 7:19 am I live in Melbourne and first we wanted timber floor boards and all the installers we spoke to and researched on the net recommended for overlay flooring a ply is applied and then the timber tongue & groove boards are laid . We changed our minds and have now decided to install parquetry in blackbutt timber ,because the pieces are much smaller ,direct stick method is used with a moisture barrier first. need more info google it and theirs plenty.
