Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 07, 2010 3:47 pm Hi, I have been canvasing these threads and have found tonnes of useful ideas and suggestions. I now have my own decision to be made and not an easy one. Floors - what to do Downstairs - I am pretty much 100%, sorted. Decided on a Sandstone Beige tile and the size 450 X 900, so a nice big one. (tring to achieve a balinese hotel style look.) The decision I just can not crunch is......Upstairs flooring I have my front entrance door Merbau.....Staircases Treads also Merbau as well as handrails.. Now went to Sydney yesterday to look at Bamboo flooring, now I must say that I was very impressed with this product upon viewing. Carbonised Strandwoven Bamboo Semigloss Wide Board 142mm wide This is a coffee coloured board - I found the others too light in color I am worried about is there just too many different things going on here????What are your thoughts Re: Help with flooring decisions....... 3Feb 09, 2010 12:05 pm I would personally have it the same as the stairs. I dont know what bamboo looks like, but if it looks similar to wooden flooring and its going to be a different colour to your stairs than I definitely wouldnt do it. We were originally going to do wooden floorboards matching the staircase, but have had to go back to carpet as that upgrade had to get the chop. Other option might be floor tiles but when I suggested this my partner said he hasnt never heard of tiles upstairs like that... I havent taken any notice in two story houses... Re: Help with flooring decisions....... 4Feb 09, 2010 4:28 pm Uhmm...the color will be different from the staircase to the flooring. Tiles upstairs - too expensive and also too noisy for downstairs. Bamboo, does look a lot like wood. But Yeah the colors do not match..... I think we have out flooring sorted!! 5Feb 14, 2010 4:16 pm I think we have the flooring all sorted! Downstairs a beautiful sandstone tile 900 X 450. Merbau staircase and Cavalier Bremworth carpet upstairs. With the carpet, my son and husband have asthma, I don't know alot about carpet. But a 80% woll mix carpet that is regularly vacumned should be fine. Does anyone have ant reccomendations for other carpet companies worth a look? Starting to get excited now about the house, just need this rain to go away so that they can get the roof on. Re: Help with flooring decisions....... 6Feb 14, 2010 4:25 pm Just saw your thread. Glad you made a decision on the floors so toolate for my 2 cents worth. We have brushbox on ground level, some other timber on stairs but bamboo on second level - and so far the colour difference is not an issue and I wish we would have gone bamboo downstairs (didn't know of this product before we started ). I would reccomend bamboo (and they do come in many colours). Check out my thread there are pics of the flooring there. progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: I think we have out flooring sorted!! 8Feb 14, 2010 7:32 pm [quote="FELIXX"]Cavalier Bremworth carpet upstairs. Cav/Brem carpets are very good quality. With normal maintenance it should be fine in terms of indoor air quality. The main thing is, your vacuum cleaner should be efficient and have HEPA filtration. Dysons (HEPA models) are good, but there are other options. Other carpet companies? There are lots, but the brand is not as important as the specifications of the actual carpet you choose. But some brands to look at would be Feltex or Victoria Carpets, who make nice wool rich carpets. Also Brintons make very fine, (mostly woven) carpets! Ash. Hi there, I'm a conplete newbie to this, but I'm looking to put a floor down in my 6x9m shed.
