Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 11, 2010 12:12 pm Bit of a strange question but I'm trying to figure out the thickness of carpet & underlay. I'm allowing 10mm for underlay but a bit stumped when it comes to the carpet. The reason I'm asking is that I have a hallway that has 3 rooms off it that will be carpeted (with what I have no idea at this stage) but the hall will be polished floorboards over ply, I know that thickness of the floorboards (19mm more or less) but now I'm trying to work out what thickness of ply I will need. I know it depends on carpet type etc - I don't really know yet, suffice to say it won't be shagpile! - just trying to get an idea on thickness. Andy Re: Carpet Thickness 2Feb 11, 2010 1:46 pm you never going to make it up. 19mm best requires 15mm plus. I went 18mm underlay on my house. With 19mm hardwood. I put plywood in the bedrooms(and carpet on top) and I bevelled the last piece of timber slighlty. It came great like this. Andy If you are after a level finish, and no trim at the carpet/timber junction, the required floor difference is the smoothedge thickness [6mm] plus carpet thickness. Don't worry about carpet underlay thickness. It does not effect the junction height. Re: Carpet Thickness 4Feb 17, 2010 4:36 pm I normally say 20 mm for a door clearance on an average carpet, but your question is unable to be answered by us - you need to ask your retailer. 1 11009 1 15758 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6595 |
