I think it's pretty similar to what gets used for wood flooring. You can get a more eco friendly mix I think but it's not very long wearing. The guys doing our floor wore face masks and 48 hours later it was still pretty pongy. A week until you could walk on the cork with shoes on and the smell was almost bareable as long as you opened heaps of windows etc. We had 3 weeks from the end of the floors being sealed until we moved in. We made a point of coming up every day once we were able to walk on it and airing the house. We'd been warned you need at least a week between when the last coat of sealer goes on ( there's 2 of them) and you can be in the house and "get by" with the smell.. Re: Cork floors and eco sealers 3Jan 21, 2010 10:15 pm Not that clued up about what's available, but I'm pretty sure there are water based ployurethane finishes that are not as toxic as the solvent ones Kez is talking about. It has been a long time consensus that solvent based finishes are harder/more durable, but I think the water based ones have improved a great deal and are pretty comparable in performance terms these days. Water based product technology has had to make advances, as the solvent based finishes have been outlawed in many parts of the world.
