Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 17, 2010 3:03 pm I've got a 1950's house and in the small laundry/toilet area, there are 3 different coloured sections of tiles! I am eventually having this retiled, probably in 6 months due to budget constraints, but want a temporary solution. Would painting them with tile paint or pavement paint be ok? I don't mind if scuff and wear marks start to appear, as it is only a temporary solution. Would I have to do any prep to the tiles before applying the paint? When I painted the brick walls in there, I used a paint sprayer and didn't care about getting paint on the floor cos I planned on tiling soon. Now that the tiling has been delayed, I have light coloured paint all around the edges anyway and have to live on this and the 3 different colours for 6 months! So a temporary solution, as ineffective as it might be, is needed! Because anything has gotta be better than what I have now! Hope someone can offer me some advice! Thanks! Re: Painting Floor Tiles? 4Jan 17, 2010 5:34 pm OK, then clean the tiles well, and rinse throughly and dry with old towels. Then you will need to acid etch the tiles, before drying and painting. Go to a painting place for the gear. Take care when using acids! Ash. Re: Painting Floor Tiles? 5Jan 19, 2010 2:58 pm Hmm, anything with the word acid in it scares me a touch! I'll investigate, thanks! Further thinking... if I do go down the route of painting the floor tiles for a very temporary solution to an ugly problem, will this make laying floor tiles over the top of the existing ones any harder? I had planned all along to get them laid on top, as I can't afford to get them ripped up and as I've had bathroom tiles laid over the top of old ones before and had no problems, thought it'd be ok to do again. But I won't paint if the new tiles won't stick to the paint or however it works! Guidance really appreciated if anyone can help!!
