Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Dec 26, 2009 12:16 pm http://www.woolsafe.com.au/certified_operators.html All, The link above can direct you to the network of Woolsafe registered carpet inspectors across Australia and New Zealand. Also, Woolsafe approved carpet cleaning technicians are listed in various areas. It's taken a while for me to jump through some hoops, do courses and pass exams to be included in these lists. For carpet cleaning, (not just wool, but any carpets) its a good place to find your local tech. An inspector can be of great value if you have any kind of problem or fault with a carpet installation. Of course, you should take any problem up with your supplier first. But if you do not have a speedy and satisfactory resolution, engaging an inspector can be a good move. We will inspect the carpets, make an unbiased determination as to the nature of the fault, and offer advice how best to have it rectified. We will then provide a written report, which can help you in the process of having your problems resolved. Cheers! Ash. Re: WOOLSAFE REGISTERED CARPET INSPECTORS 2Dec 28, 2009 12:35 am Well, Ash, as you know from previous posts, we are grubs who put up with dirt-infested, bacteria-ridden carpet for 25 years and the new one 5 years simply because they looked and smelt clean with only vacuuming and spot-cleaning. The second one was plain off-white, too. Gee, we must lead very unexciting lives. However, inspired by your wisdom, we have decided to mend our ways and get some regular carpet-cleaning done in the new home. Mainly because we love our new carpet and would like to give it every chance of looking as good as it does now at least until fashions change radically. We chose Metropol linear logic in a mid-brown (proportion is the colour). We love the texture and the way it looks light when you look down the room in spite of the fact that it is not really a light colour. We also liked the fact that the carpet-layers allowed us to choose the pile direction so the lightest look was visible as you walk in. Even the propensity to show some shading with footprints gives it some character and interest without being OTT. But, when I check that website for woolsafe registered carpet technicians in SA, I find two! One is in Mt Gambier (about 500km away) and one at Glenelg (about 50 Km across town). Any suggestions?......we live at Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. Cheers Zeke Re: WOOLSAFE REGISTERED CARPET INSPECTORS 3Dec 28, 2009 2:38 am Hi there Zeke, I'd suggest that you contact Glenelg C/C. They are highly reputable, Dave Sutton and his son run the business. Discuss options of them coming your way. 50km isn't all that far. If you are not in a great hurry, I think they would be able to schedule in to come your way. If that isn't the case, I'm sure they will happily recommend another technician that may be nearer to you (if in fact there is one they recommend). Let me know how you get on. Keep in mind though, that some businesses may be on holidays, so leave your number if you don't get an immediate response. Cheers! Ash. Re: WOOLSAFE REGISTERED CARPET INSPECTORS 4Dec 29, 2009 1:15 pm Even though I have known Ash for a number of years I have not given him any special favours, he has in deed been made to jump through the hoops as he says. The latest was the course run by the eminent wool scientist and technical author on carpet and fabric tecnhnoloy, Dr Eric M Brown from Cleaning Research International in Great Brittain. There are only a very limited number of Carpet Cleaning Technicians worldwide who have made this level with in this industry. Congratulations Ash Well Done. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Re: WOOLSAFE REGISTERED CARPET INSPECTORS 5Dec 29, 2009 1:56 pm Congratulations Ash!! We are indeed fortunate to benefit from your knowledge & generosity you provide on the Forum ...........and sometimes not so fortunate from your knuckle rapping Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: WOOLSAFE REGISTERED CARPET INSPECTORS 6Dec 29, 2009 11:20 pm Cheers Col (and Southie) I have plenty still to learn, and its been a great benefit rubbing shoulders with other Woolsafe techs at the courses. I find that hanging out here at Homeone helps me to 'keep the iron in the fire' so to speak too. It helps to see things from the perspective of people who are buying carpets, and the questions they have. Ash. Re: WOOLSAFE REGISTERED CARPET INSPECTORS 7Jan 05, 2010 1:06 am Heah Ash, how does your org work with , or do you compete against , the Australian Carpet Cleaning Institute running out of of Sydney ? As a retailer and an ex-wholesaler, I used and use ACCI technicians only. Have the big mills and the ACI got on board with you guys too ? Or still early days ? Have you got Wools of New Zealand accreditation ? Always good to have more professionals and less of the 3 rooms for $50 guys (who do more damage than good). Cool. Re: WOOLSAFE REGISTERED CARPET INSPECTORS 8Jan 05, 2010 2:23 am Hi Anthony, Good to have you on board! Firstly, it is not 'my organisation'. I am just one who has done training and met the pre-requisites that it takes to be a carpet inspector and am part of the Woolsafe network of carpet cleaning technicians. You are free to research Woolsafe yourself, both in Australia and the UK. With respect of the ACCI, I have very good knowledge of the chequered history of the organisation, and its founder Leo Powell. I was the first carpet cleaner from WA to become an ACCI technician when I went to Melbourne in '94 and attended my first ACCI course, and have done many since, including the HECS courses. Leo opened my eyes to the need for good technical training, as he has for many others. He certainly is an excellent instructor! Unfortunately though, Leo has not managed to keep the great majority of those he has taught paying him large subscriptions to be part of his 'elite group' and dancing to his tune. I understand there is a handful still loyal to Leo, but most have 'moved on to greener pastures'. Actually, I'd say that most who are now Woolsafe techs have done a heap of ACCI courses, but no longer align themselves with the ACCI. So perhaps you can tell me how many techs in Melbourne are still registered as members of the ACCI today? You ask about the 'big mills'? I can name a tech in Melbourne who is a Woolsafe inspector and is certainly used by the 'big mills' on a regular basis. But yes you are correct, it is still early days, and it takes a while to gain the trust of large manufacturers. I am just starting to do some work for manufacturers. I was invited by Wools of NZ some years ago to go to NZ and do the WofNZ course, when I was still in the ACCI. Leo was behind all that. The course and trip was going to cost far more than I could afford, so I declined. I know the only one guy from WA who did go. Again, there are only a handful throughout Australia who did this, and I'm not even sure the network is still alive. WofNZ are a marketing organisation more than anything. Is John Crosby still at the helm there? Thanks for your query Anthony. There has been quite a dynamic evolution of the carpet cleaning industry over the past umpteen years. Associations, alliances, and a rise & fall of industry personalities. Many techs that I know (like myself) have been through it all, (the good, the bad & the ugly)! I run a forum for the carpet cleaning industry. Being a carpet man, you are welcome to register and see what is happening. Go to http://www.australianforums.biz if it interests you. Cheers! Ash. Re: WOOLSAFE REGISTERED CARPET INSPECTORS 9Jan 05, 2010 5:10 am If you need a contact with Goofies, Feltex, VCC then let me know and I can find a name and number for you. Goofies & Feltex have state based complaint managers, whereas VCC has it centralised in Melbourne - just the 1 guy. I think John is still running Wools of NZ. I used an ACCI operator recently to re-set an SDN that had started to lose pile definition , at the mills request. He sounded like he came from a distNce to see me which indicates they have less members than they used to. I used to have a carpet business in Gosford NSW which is where Leo was based so that is how that all happened. used to use his tech's a bit when I worked with Feltex and we had a spate of smelly carpets getting laid!!! Long time ago now. Mid 90's. That is a really good attitude Akin to you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
