Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 102Feb 12, 2010 7:54 pm Ben Vander Veen ozberg, You were talking to the wrong area of Hanson, Hanson have a specific decorative area and rep in every state where they have specific mix designs, with different aggregates etc. Their decorative mix is one of the best on the market, right behind Mentone Pre-Mix's (but they only deliver in Melbourne ). Hi Ben, When I phoned Progrind I was referred to the Hanson NSW decorative office, who then told me to call my local manager............. Its a lot different in the country (although only two hours from sydney), than in the city. And WA and Vic seem miles ahead of NSW in dec concrete. NSW doesn't even have a display centre. Progrind kindly referred us to a current job they were doing in North Western Sydney. Drove two hours to look, only to have all the windows covered in black plastic, DOH!!!. Did see a good flick at the cinema though!!!! Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 104Feb 13, 2010 7:16 pm onc_artisan I can highly recommend just a light sand(hone) and sealing with wax. Cost is about $20 sq mtr onc is this any easier to do after handover? And Ben do you offer this product as well? or know someone in Vic who does? Also I am really having trouble finding some pics of just Honed concrete in a domestic area and what the cons are vs a full grind polish and seal like Progrind and Hiperfloor. Thanks Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 105Feb 13, 2010 8:21 pm Hi kudeta, There is a pic of a house with what I think is honed or burnished concrete on this site. It's the Benjafield blades house. Just scroll throught the pictures until you see some of the internal pics. http://www.cleverdesign.com.au/benjafield.html I've been in this house and the floor really was lovely (apart from a few stains where the tradies hadn't taken the proper care ) Hope thet helps 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 109Feb 14, 2010 5:00 pm terrific thread... in perth, chasing polished concreting flooring for 80sqm just about to have handover, so would like to know approx costs, recommendations To suit a lot of brown/mocha cupboards/stainless steel kitchen gear white walls. Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 110Feb 14, 2010 5:16 pm stockt12 - Polished concrete is normally done in 2 stages, 1. After the slab is poured using a mix designed for polished concrete(ie 32mpa and usually with a blend of stones[aggregate-a selection] prior to the placement) called first stage grinding. 2. After the major building work has been done but usually before plaster/gyprock and second fix. If you haven't planned for this stage then you will have issues to deal with. Onc Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 111Feb 14, 2010 5:42 pm thank you for the super quick reply... so no polished concrete for me then... will attempt to do it with the next build this year what should i be budgeting for in terms of both stages? Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 112Feb 14, 2010 5:56 pm Well, first of all I must add that you still can have polished concrete or honed. However, the level of sheen will be in direct relationship to the slab mix and placement. Also it will be grey, likely with grey stones(bluemetal) which I think looks fine. .. and you could stain it. The cement and sand is the bit that refuses to polish if the MPA is not high enough or water is added to the mix during placement and the cure technique. Now for the next one, the things to consider are the areas you want polished. The colour you want? and whether the builder will allow it? The cost is more than normal grey but too wide a price variation to give you an all up price without knowing your choices. The cost to polish is around $100+ sq mtr. Hope that helps Onc Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 113Feb 14, 2010 6:08 pm ahhh my apologies i would still like to do it for this place, an area of approx 80squares. i have contacted people in perth about quoting up for it etc... without any luck, so if you could post some contacts that would be fantastic. for the next one, there is a 'sparkly' quartz looking design that i saw previously.. when my mind comes back from its weekend getaway, i will try and find a link to the pic Re: Polished Concrete Floors for Living Areas. Good Idea? 120Feb 14, 2010 8:11 pm Hey Onc and Ben, Hope I don't interfere with your banter here I have been enjoying your discussion Onc - the photo's you posted look great, good enough to convince me to consider concrete again! But - if polished (or honed) concrete does in fact crack, how do you repair it? And once repaired, is it still visable? Of course it would be preferable to think that if it was done "properly" it wouldn't crack, but I'm assuming there can never be a guarantee?
