Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Dec 08, 2009 6:34 pm hi there We just got our floor boards set in. Unfortunately I'm very dissappointed, the colour looks great but it is uneven. The guy told me that our walls are uneven that's why the skirtings(spelling???) do not look straight. It is true the house is old and the walls do not look even. That I can understand. But the floor itself does also look uneven. He told me that it was "designed" for carpet that's why they didn't really bother to even the concrete when they build the house. Should he have to even it up, he would have to level it up for about 30 mm and it would cost a lot of money. In some areas he took some concrete away. He said that it was not worth to level up and should not be a problem in the future but I'm not convinced. Does this sound OK? Would that be picked up at a building inspection if we would sell it? Would decrease the value? Would it cause an problems in the future? Unfortunately as I don't know anything about it I have signed of that the goods and service was delivered to my satisfaction. Is too late to complain? Re: floor boards question - I'm so dissappointed 4Dec 08, 2009 8:54 pm hmm, did they warn you before starting work that it would be uneven? It probably is too late now that you've signed it off, but others might have more insight... do you have a photo of the floor? Re: floor boards question - I'm so dissappointed 5Dec 09, 2009 9:13 am He said it was a bit uneven but it shouldn't be a problem. he would just "remove" the bumps and it would be fine. I asked that if he had to level it up to let us know as we would probably not be able to access our first floor. No no, he said we won't need to do that it will be fine. When I came home he told me that it has been a difficult job as everything was so uneven. He did show me some of "uneveness". But also "assured" me that it was fine. I'll try to send some pictures. Re: floor boards question - I'm so dissappointed 8Dec 11, 2009 10:07 am I'm sorry to hear. Are the timber boards uneven in the way they are laid or are they straight but raised therefore creating bumps. I would definitely complain. The age of the house should not reflect how timber is laid. I strongly believe old houses were built better than what they are today. Your walls should be straight regardless of how the concrete may have been laid. I would get it fixed. It seems the floor doesn't look right. Do you have any photos? Re: floor boards question - I'm so dissappointed 9Dec 14, 2009 9:07 am Here a little update. We went to the "shop" this weekend with some pictures (I'll post them tonight for you). The person with who we have been dealing appologized and we will have somebody coming in to give us an "assessment". Based on the pictures he didn't seem pleased and said that this is not how it should have been done. So finger crossed and hopefully something will be done. The floor is straight but raised here and there. Re: floor boards question - I'm so dissappointed 10Dec 14, 2009 10:34 am I think I know what you mean now. Sounds like they didn't sand it back enough to make it even. Sometimes depending on the type of timber used means that there may be parts that are raised but this is more likely due to the density of the wood or the poor laying techniques. Sounds hopeful with the assessment. Nothing to do with it. If the substrate is out the floor will be out. 4 6010 I'm about to put down some Merbau.
