Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Nov 24, 2009 9:26 am Hi everyone - first post and I need urgent advice! To cut a long story short, purchased home in need or renovating, during settlement period, purchased carpet and floating Jarrah floors. Knew there was Cypress flooring underneath but all we could see on inspection was waterdamaged parts in the kitchen (hence the purchase of Jarrah boards) Moved in and ripped all carpet up to find the boards are in much better condition than we realised with the water damage being isolated to about 1m in the kitchen plus a few holes where walls have come out. Now, hubby and I LOVE the look of the Jarrah (we are not too keen on the knotted look of the cypress - had it in our old house) but do you think they'll look cheap in comparison to polishing up the existing boards? I need to make a decision asap as kitchen goes in soon - bi-folds ordered ect. Are we crazy going with the Jarrah (even though we love the look). - Nb. price is comparative due to repair work so not really an issue. Please help! Thanks in advance. Re: Urgent Advice Needed, Existing or Floating 3Nov 24, 2009 7:56 pm abbelina, I've been in a very similar predicament! My house has solid Cypress Pine floors, and I hated that knotted look. Bought Jarrah floating floors to change the look and have zero regrets! The only thing I was worried about was making my living areas, and kitchen, look too dark since Jarrah is such a dark coloured timber. The installer alleviated these fears however as I have tonnes of natural light - and he was right. The floors look very classy and modern and I'd go Jarrah again. But as mentioned previously, it is all about personal preference. Re: Urgent Advice Needed, Existing or Floating 4Nov 26, 2009 11:05 am Venix, you have certainly alleviated a lot of my anxiety. Would LOVE to see any pics you may have. I do love the look of the Jarrah and don't want the knotted Cypress look so am thinking I have made the right decision for me! We will be having white walls/kitchen to offset the richness of the Jarrah. Thanks again!! Abbelina Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6141 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 3002 To put anything over slate you will need to put self level compound over the entire area as slate various in thickness and is very un even.
