Re: How do you clean porcelain tiles and grout?? 23May 11, 2013 8:39 am That's a great idea using a vacuum. Thanks! Re: How do you clean porcelain tiles and grout?? 24May 11, 2013 9:45 am Grout Perfect Use a neutral cleaner no higher than PH 7 to clean your tiles and grout never use metho or just water this will create a film that only a professional can remove. Do not use a steam mop this also creates a film in the grout. We recommend a micro fibre mop or the new large oates sponge mop you can now buy at woolworths . The most important thing about cleaning tiles and grout is the drying you MUST use a towel after the area you have cleaned so the dirty water does not just sit in the grout joint/valley. Sealers: Do not use a clear penetrating sealers they are a waist of money as it just sits below the surface and your grout will still get dirty and stained the only full proof sealer is grout colour sealing which is a topical coating, you also have over 1000 colours to choose from. Colour sealing your grout makes your grout 100% non porous so no staining or discolouration will occur it does not stop it from getting dirty but very easy for the home owner to keep clean. The reason we do not use clear penetrating sealers anymore is from what our own customers are saying eg. why did I get them sealed it did nothing. Hope this helps Craig I agree... We colour sealed the grout in our current shower and it's the best money I've ever spent. Grout just wipes clean I am definitely getting the tiles in our new build colour sealed before we move in. Silly us forgot to get the mortar sealed before we moved in. So we now have some darkening of tiles. So I need to be able to clean this, what is the best way? Or get a coloured sealing done. Has anyone used the coloured mortar sealing product? If so, is it hard to do? Are you happy with the results? We also have a problem in our powder room. Since handover the mortar has been a different colour. We were told at handover that the mortar was probably still damp from cleaning and when dry it should go to normal colour. It hasn't. Here are some pics We'll add this to our 13 week maintenance list, but do you think the builder has to fix this? Or is it just normal wear and tear? We don't use this room a lot, the laundry get used much more and we don't have this problem. Hoping the builder will fix it, but if they don't, how do I get this fixed? Especially as you don't use that room often. Hopefully the builder fixes it for you. If not you should seriously consider getting the grout professionally colour sealed. My shower grout was 9 years old and so discoloured. Since the colour seal its been bright white ever since - we chose white grout as we have white tiles but there's literally 100's of grout colours to choose from. We don't have a lot of tiled areas in the new build but I'll be getting it all colour sealed. The darker patches can be caused from installing grout to early as the tile glue has not set properly but there are other reasons as well. The only fix is to colour seal if the grout is recessed enough below the tile. If not then a re grout would have to be done.
