Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 28, 2009 8:05 am I have finished removing carpet from my first home, and will begin sanding this weekend hopefully. However, I'm still stuck on what to finish the floor with. As I'm trying to complete this as soon as possible, I have been leaning towards Tung Oil (something tougher like Intergrain) due to its ease of application and that I wouldn't have to sand between coats. However - I'm sure other products might be just as easy to apply, and $40 on a small orbital sander isn't a lot to spend if I have to. So taking into consideration this is DIY finishing on a hardwood floor, I want to be quick, and my sanding probably won't be perfect: 1. What would you suggest I finish the floor with? 2. Can you recommend a product? It depends on the look your after and drying times etc. Any water-based polyurethane is fairly user friendly and will not have the odour of the tung-oil. The tung-oil will bring out much more colour and grain than a water-based finish Re: Timber floor finish - Easy DIY recommendations? 3Oct 28, 2009 10:29 pm Dukekamaya Intergrain Tung Oil is a good product and easy to apply with a lambswool applicator. However, I can't find an interiot Intergrain Tung Oil product - unless you are suggesting Nature's Timber Oil ? (http://www.intergrain.com.au/naturestimberoil.html). Secondly - is there any water-based poly that you could suggest? (as a secondary plan of action). Re: Timber floor finish - Easy DIY recommendations? 4Oct 29, 2009 8:31 pm The product is simply called 'Intergrain Tung Oil' Its available quite readily. Natures Timber Oil is an outdoor finish Intergrain make a water-based poly called 'Floortec' which is tintable Re: Timber floor finish - Easy DIY recommendations? 5Oct 29, 2009 9:06 pm Dukekamaya The product is simply called 'Intergrain Tung Oil' Its available quite readily. I actually think I saw somewhere that a product with that name is obselete. Actually I don't think they have a product called Floortec either. I'm so confused Maybe I'll just have to bit the bullet and use a two-pac. Wattle 7008 seems to be suggested a lot. KKind of sad actually as there isn't a whole lot of info out there on what exactly to buy! Re: Timber floor finish - Easy DIY recommendations? 6Oct 30, 2009 5:35 pm http://www.intergrain.com.au/ultrafloor.html It appears Floortec is now called Ultrafloor. It also looks like the Tung Oil is no longer available Re: Timber floor finish - Easy DIY recommendations? 7Nov 02, 2009 1:47 pm [quote="Dukekamaya"]http://www.intergrain.com.au/ultrafloor.html It appears Floortec is now called Ultrafloor. Unless anyone disagrees (or I find something) I will most likely use this finish. Re: Timber floor finish - Easy DIY recommendations? 8Nov 02, 2009 2:14 pm Feast Watson and Intergrain (along with Cabots) are all made by the same company. I wouldn't be surprised if Florseal is the same as the Intergrain Tung Oil DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair I mean, I install them/sell them for a living so I haven't done DIY, unless you count the first one I installed lol.
