Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 25, 2009 10:09 pm i am a complete newbie at this home renovation subjects so here goes. We are a couple of weeks from settlement and the property has tiles through out the internals. During property inspection the architect made a mention that the tiles are over timber floorboards and some have cracks due to flexing. Anyhow, we are not a fan of tiles and would like "some sort" of timber type flooring rather than the tiles and the two obv (imho) options are: 1/ Carefully remove tiles, sand back to original timber floors. However the owner (who commissioned the tiles) thinks they were glued directly to the timber floors 2/ Engineered board like "Armourfloor® UltraCote flooring" as an example over the tiles. This will raise the floor height some more So what are the pros and cons to each option? Thx in advance Re: engineered timber over tiles? 2Oct 26, 2009 6:53 am If the tiles are laid directly over the timber floor you will almost certainly damage the timber beyond repair removing the tile adhesive. Perhaps laying a new timber floor over the old is a possibility after removing all tiles and adhesive, it would provide a much better substrate than the tiles would Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15905 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6134 Levelling compound Ardit is the best but buy a bag of sand and make sand dam to protect your wood floor 2 15252 |
