Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 20, 2009 9:19 am Now there has been some fabulous information on this forum for those that can afford carpet at $100 per sqm but what if someone can't?? Are there any recommendations for a poor man's carpet that wouldn't cost more than $35 per sqm just for carpet? The carpet will be laid in bedrooms, we also have 3 kids and a dog that sometimes comes in. I don't like the look and feel of the builder's range polyprops but is there any point in spending a little extra for a SDN carpet like Godfrey Hirst Classic Square or the Beaulieu Windswept or am I just wasting my money? These do feel denser and better quality but will I be getting any longer or better wear and soil/stain resistance out of them? They come with 15 or 20 year warantees/guarantees though as I've read through this forum I should take them with a grain of salt. I'm being told by the builder's carpet supplier not to bother and just replace the carpets in 2-3 years time though I would like to try to get many more years out of such if I can. I've tried to shop around outside of the builder's suppliers though for the money that we get credited back everyone only seems to be able to direct me back to cheap polyprops. I would be so grateful for any advice or experiences. Yes, they are polyprop, but they have a really nice soft feel that you could not differentiate from the SDNs you are talking about. Not sure how much they cost, but you can find out. They are a better option than SDN's in many cases. Should perform very well though. But despite all their blurb about having antimicrobial treatments, urine spills need to be prevented, and cleaned up well if they occur.
