A water based finish gives a totally clear finish. Some prefer this whilst some find it a little bland. Its purely a person choice. Some modern water based polys use a solvent based primer which gives you the stong colour and grain without the yellow look. I have blackbutt with tung oil against near white walls. In that setting it looks like a dark blonde to light brown. If so what were the "special circumstances" under which it was granted?
