Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 22, 2009 9:27 am Hey Guys, I am hopefully getting my Blackbutt floors sanded real soon. The question is what gloss level to go for. Is high gloss as bad are the rumours suggest in regards to showing up dirt etc. Is gloss (like external paints) actually more durable then Matt products??? Does anyone on this forum have blackbutt or light timber in Gloss. I would love to hear from you. And by gloss i am talking about the two pack type and not water based( which although can be bought in gloss ) is not equivalent to the two pack Gloss levels) Comments and photos are greatly appreciated. Re: To Gloss or not to Gloss!!! 2Sep 22, 2009 10:38 am hi borg, I have Tasmanian Oak (light coloured) timber done in high gloss oil based finish (which I think is like two pac?). For me the showing up of dirt is not a problem, and I have two small kids, one of whom is still crawling with dirty hands on it every day! Sure it shows up but a quick once over with the enjo mop and it's all gone. The angle of the sunlight on the boards can make the dirt show more or less. I previously lived with non-glossy, very old floorboards and found them to show up dirt just as much. I love the high gloss look of the ones we have now. Will try to put up some pics later if you're interested, or there are heaps in my 'house of donuts' thread if you want to have a look. Mrs B has blackbutt or spotted gum (can't remember which?) in matt finish you can check her blog for pics of hers as a comparison.
