Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 18, 2009 3:50 pm Ok our house will be 2 story, upstairs is living, dinning, kitchen, master bed/ensuite & powder room/toilet this will all be timber floors and originally downstairs was going to be timber also except for kids bedrooms downstairs which would be carpet and bathrooms will be tiled. But now we are considering tiles dowstairs, do you think it would look like too much a mismatch of materials?? Stairs will be timber. I can't believe how indecisive I've become now that I actually have to make final decisions ____________________________ Bec ____________________________ Building our Balinese Resort Inspired Dream Home Blog ~ http://hagarshouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Mixed Floor Coverings 3Sep 18, 2009 7:28 pm I think it would depend on the flow of the rooms. For example, some of the display homes I've been in have tiles in the entry hall, carpet in the lounge and then tiles in the kitchen/living area. This means that standing at the front door you can see a mix of floor coverings and personally, I think it makes the house look smaller/mis-matched. In other displays I've looked at there are tiles from the front door right through to the back, with carpet in bedrooms that are off the hall. These houses look bigger some how, and have a smoother flow. Re: Mixed Floor Coverings 6Sep 21, 2009 10:45 am royalblue EKT Most of the display houses I saw have tiles downstairs and timber upstairs. We are having this mix also. No carpet though. You used the correct word. The homes would have carpets! Except my home... I love the look and warmth of carpet when its kept in good condition but i'm not a fan of scrubbing out texta, paint, playdough etc. The sound/feel of cleaning carpet is like fingernails on a blackboard for me...
