Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 18, 2009 12:05 pm In a new home is it unreasnoble to expect the tiled floor (kitchen) match the Engineered floor (family/dining)? We are having some dramas this morning with our new home that is being built. We are having 14mm engineered flooring butting against tiles in the kitchen. The tiler has started laying the floor which is 7 - 8mm (no packing). The superviser claims it's not normal to have a bit of a step? What do other think? Re: Timber Flooring Adjoining Tiled Floor 2Sep 18, 2009 1:43 pm You could ask the tiler to slightly raise/angle the last row of tiles that will adjoins the timber. There should be a thin spacer (piece of metal) that separates the timber from the tiles - that should be the height guide for the tiler to come up to. At the same time you could have the last part of the timber which adjoins the tiles sanded a little extra at an angle to meet the spacer/tiles. If left as is, a 7-8 mm step will be dangerous. Possibly against some building codes, but I'm not sure where to check that. Someone else might be able to help there. Hope you can sort it out. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15884 No, I even have sections of narrowness where the tiles won't slide up any further.
