Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 14, 2009 11:00 pm Hi! is it ok to install skirting boards on top of carpet? (rather than skirting first). are there any pros or cons? its just that in our hallway/theatre, carpet and tiles are in the same room. tiles have been laid, and we havent put the skirting on yet, coz we'll need to raise it for the carpet to fit underneath. how do we ensure the carpet will meet the height of the skirting from the tiles? so for the rest of our bedrooms that have carpet, we're wondering if its ok to put skirting on top of carpet, so we dont loose the height of our skirting boards. has anyone done this? thanks! Re: Skirting on top of carpet 2Sep 15, 2009 12:38 pm It can make it a bugger to lift the carpet if/when need be. The carpet is stetched onto the smoothedge, and the smoothedge should have a gully around the room perimeter. That is, between the wall/skirting and the smoothedge, there should be a gap about 60% of the carpet width (normally about 6mm). But if the base of the skirting is not too close to the smoothedge, it can be done without great problems. Ash. Re: Skirting on top of carpet 3Sep 15, 2009 5:03 pm Thanks ash, sorry what is the smoothedge? is it part of the carpet? so when we instal our skirting over the carpet, is there any considerations we're meant to be giving, or can we just liquid nail it to the wall above the carpet? we probably wont be in the house long enough to ever want to change the carpet.. Re: Skirting on top of carpet 5Sep 17, 2009 7:50 pm One problem that can show up is if there are any undulations in the floor. You can get different heights above the carpet. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Joe Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. If you haven't sorted this already you need to caulk this gap. Not sure where you are but if you are in Sydney I can… 5 4362 7 3013 |
