Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 09, 2009 5:20 pm Hi, we have an existing concrete slab - am looking to have it smooth and ?? Have found two products: Tex Stain and Mastershield (www.parchem.com.au) - go to decorative services Anyone with any knowledge or experience of these methods - would appreciate your views Thanks Re: Concrete Slab - polishing etc (Tex stain or Mastershield) 2Sep 09, 2009 5:39 pm We used texstain on our slab (aged terracotta). It looked beautiful, but then we put a waterbased acrylic sealer on - don't do this!!! use a harder sealer that doesn't scratch! we had to redo the entire floor (but opted for a non-acid concrete stain the second time around as the acid stain hadn't really penetrated the concrete well enough to survive the scraping off of the sealer). Oh, and make sure there is nothing (!!!) on the slab. We found that where bits of glue and other products had fallen during the building process, the acid didn't penetrate at all despite all our scrubbing and cleaning of those areas. Good luck! Re: Concrete Slab - polishing etc (Tex stain or Mastershield) 3Sep 09, 2009 7:10 pm Thank you - very good advice - especially the bit about the glue etc. When did you originally install it - was it hard wearing (taking into account the waterbased sealant)? This is going into a lounge/dining/kitchen - on a farm with small dogs. Re: Concrete Slab - polishing etc (Tex stain or Mastershield) 4Sep 15, 2009 11:45 am Coatings by nature are not hard wearing, the will scratch, generally discolour and require peridoic maintenance. If you are after "true" polished concrete, you will get a concrete floor that requires no coating (or "waxing") and no peridoic maintenance. What we do is not only a method for protecting a concrete floor – in as much as a process for turning a concrete floor into a highly abrasion resistant, incredibly dense, smooth and visually appealing surface. This process eliminates the need for epoxy or thin film coatings, guaranteeing a surface that can withstand even the toughest traffic. You can read more about it on our website, http://www.progrind.com.au Regards, Ben Vander Veen PROGRIND AUSTRALIA Maintenance Free Polished Concrete, without coatings! www.progrind.com.au Hi, planning on using the attached stone pieces in my bathroom.
