Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering Re: 1.5mm vs 3mm grout joint when tiling 41Aug 07, 2016 8:31 am It is rubbish to think that 1.5mm grouting is not a correct standard, unless perhaps you have a huge tiles. But even then, I've seen very expensive, high quality large European tiles that have a 1mm grout as the preference in the associated brochures (Starck: Flexible Architecture). If it was a standard, it would be Australian bureaucracy gone mad. What about all those beautiful balconies and bathrooms with tessellated tiles that are looking as good as the day they were tiled 100 years on (see url below)? Some of these are grouted with a space less than 1.5mm, more like 1mm, which looks so beautiful. It's all about quality. Some clients want their tiles to look beautiful while some so-called tilers want it to be easy. Just magnificent and 147-years-old to boot. This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows. As the builder indicated, he's worked on many upmarket builds, these were the most well… 13 19076 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9826 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10921 |
