Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 23, 2009 12:41 am We want to get a bamboo floor, however we don't know much about this new material!!! Does anyone have bamboo floor installed???. Most of the manufactures claimed that bamboo is harder than Janka( hardest wood)!!! Is this true?. Is bamboo floor better than engineered timber floor? (eg. Boral Silkwood Blackbutt) Which is better: Tongue & Groove system or Uniclic (Quick Click) system? Which brand should I go for? How much did you pay for? Is there anything I shoud watch out for? Thanks alot Re: Bamboo floor!!! Plz help 2Aug 23, 2009 6:47 am Are you installing it yourself? The first option is more involved and will require an install person the second you may DIY. Is it a new floor? If it is I then would go for a conventional floor the old fashion way tongue and groove hammered on joists or gryproc nothing beats that. As far as timber is concerned claims are claims until defects are discovered in later years. If you renovating then yes go for bamboo either system will do or the engineered floors easy to install already polished system. Re: Bamboo floor!!! Plz help 3Aug 23, 2009 12:24 pm I would love to DIY, but I'm not sure yet... may be just get the expert do the whole lot!!!. And yes it is a brand new floor, around 214m2 of floor need to be covers. Ps: I'm building a Montery 383 with Henley atm. Handover should be around next 4 to 5 weeks Re: Bamboo floor!!! Plz help 4Aug 23, 2009 5:28 pm The Janka rating measures how easy or difficult a material is to dent. It is a simple test with a steel ball, and yes, bamboo (strandwoven esp) has a very high rating. Durability and other performance measures, well, only time will tell. I've changed my mine many times about which flooring to use, but with only about 1 month to go before I have to make up my mind, bamboo (natural colour, strandwoven, T&G) is the front runner. The supplier recommends stick-down or nail-down. Cost is approx $50 per sq.m plus installation. Strandwoven type can look different between different suppliers - I'm GUESSING that the length of the strands can differ significantly between different brands. So, pays to see it for yourself before buying. Chris CDC Housing Code 3 When to apply Floor Area external face of wall vs Gross Floor Area internal face of wall.
