Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 17, 2009 10:37 pm Hi, We have just had our floors limewashed (again) and the current floor sander did, in my opinion, a shocking job. The middle of the room looks great, but the edges look crap, like it hasn't been smoothly applied and cut-in. Unfortunately, he has already put on the Bona Traffic hardening solution. His side-kick made a mess of the kitchen and he had to do that again already, so he is refusing to do anything more - he is saying that it will fade in time and that thats the way it looks (first sign of excuses) and blaming me for finding any little problems. Little, its 30mm from the skirting board and kitchen drop down? take a look. http://picasaweb.google.com.au/goose95q ... 5293454722 Given it already has the hardened, does anyone know what I can do to make it look less contrasting? Re: limewash gone wrong - any advice? 2Aug 17, 2009 11:03 pm I don't think you should have to do anything. They've stuffed it up, they should fix it. I'm sorry, but I think you could have done a better job than they did. Have you paid them yet? Judie Re: limewash gone wrong - any advice? 3Aug 18, 2009 10:31 am No I haven't and he is trying to get me to pay half because around half of the area is fine and we are happy with it. However a proper solution may involve redoing the entire lot, but im unsure whether it would be appopriate to use the join between the two rooms as a separator and only re-do half. Some of the edges are fine and as People won't be walking on it - im wondering whether I could just apply something on top of it that will just make it a little less obvious...I think this may work better than sanding off just a board or two and redoing both the limewashing and Bona traffic hardening.... but then this is sitting on top of the hardener. Re: limewash gone wrong - any advice? 6Aug 18, 2009 3:32 pm That's a terrible job. Can you get a quote to repair from another flooring person? It might cost more to fix the half that was stuffed up than the whole original quote. Having a quote to repair will give you some ammunition. You'd also have an idea where you stand if you decide to cut your losses with this guy and accept to pay for the room you are happy with. Re: limewash gone wrong - any advice? 7Aug 18, 2009 3:54 pm Completely agree with kb46. Getting a written re-quote to fix his mishap can be a great weapon to use in the argument over whether he should be paid partly or not - NOT ! As a general rule, please beware of operators who ask for more than 20-30% up front as a depo. I would stick to only 5-10% tops and only if they could justify the request for a deposit.
