Re: Bamboo flooring - anyone had experience? 2Aug 14, 2009 7:04 pm Hi Tony We are having bamboo flooring. We are doing it ourselves after handover so it should go it in about 4 weeks (fingers crossed). We just love the look of the bamboo and the environment properties was also something we are really happy about. We were given a full board as a sample which we take with us for colour selections and we love it, we are so glad we went that way. We chose the natural colour which is quite light and similar to Tassie Oak. There are 3 types horizontal, vertical & stand woven. Strand woven is by the far be best product (& therefore of course the most expensive) as it has a hardness rating above most other wood floor options. We are paying $110 per sqm installed so it is not cheap but hopefully it will be worth it. There is some good info & pictures on this website http://www.styleplantation.com/ Have a look on our blog in a few weeks and hopefully we will have some piccies of the finished product! Re: Bamboo flooring - anyone had experience? 4Aug 14, 2009 10:40 pm Hi there - My brother-in-law lays floors for a living. He personally doesn't recomment bamboo floors to his clients. He says that because it is thinner than solid hardwood flooring there is a higher chance of it buckling/warping when the season changes or when you use air-con/heating. He also says that because the way its made by pressing all the bamboo together that when you want to resand and polish its hard because the bamboo splinters. On the plus side he does say that its super tough so awsome for kids and its also waterproof as well. Re: Bamboo flooring - anyone had experience? 5Aug 15, 2009 12:03 am Bamboo can be very hard wearing. There are still some cowboys bringing it in from overseas and that can be quite bad. Make sure you purchase it from a reputable business as they cannot afford to bring in sub standard material. Some of the earlier imported stuff was a real nightmare but the quality control is better now as long as the importer is reputable. It is the same as anything you buy really (you get what you pay for) In WA we have a company called Bamboozle I am unsure if they trade on the east coast if that is where you are but they are highly recomended. Take it from me as a floor person myself and specialising in floor demolition/concrete grinding bamboo and timber for that matter are NOT waterproof. We are forever removing these types of floor for insurance companies after they have been exposed to good old h2o...
