Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 08, 2009 10:51 pm Hi! We're looking at tiling our house, but also want skirting throughout it. Is it recommended to tile then put skirting on top of it? or vice versa? and then I'm guessing for the bedrooms we put skirting first, then the carpet? Is this correct? thanks! Re: Skirting on top of tiles? 2Aug 08, 2009 11:05 pm my builder does the skirting first and then tiles under, but i dont know whether that is the norm Re: Skirting on top of tiles? 3Aug 15, 2009 9:09 am For the best finish leave the skirtings off until thetiling is done. This way all cuts are hidden. A cut you dont see is better than any cut you have to see. Now your builder will most likely not do this as it means coming back after the tiling. They usually leave them of the floor so you can slip the tile under. This can work but depends on the thickness of the tile and may cause problems if the tiles needs to screed the floor prior to tiling. Same when doing a bathroom wall. Always best to do the cornice work after the wall tiling. Hide those cuts where ever possible. If you haven't sorted this already you need to caulk this gap. Not sure where you are but if you are in Sydney I can… 5 4345 7 3005 |
