Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 05, 2009 1:40 pm We are having the majority of our living space downstairs in a really nice dark grey (with flecks of white) tile. This same tile will also be in all our wet areas too. Now I know it's only early days but we've started to look at carpet to see what's out there and we are struggling to find a good match. As soon as you enter our house the hall will be tiled and the den to the left will be carpeted so it's really important to get the right colour combo. Anyway my question is ... should we try and find an exact match to the grey or go a lighter shade of grey? Contrast or match? Re: Carpet & Tile colour to match?? 2Aug 05, 2009 2:30 pm I think this is truly a personal taste question. Have you taken a tile sample to the carpet shop? Maybe they can suggest something to you. I would think that if the tile has a fleck in it, then a straight colour might be best for the carpet .(as opposed to a fleck in the carpet or a pattern). Perhaps a darker colour would look nice, then they can offset each other. We are having lightish tiles and I am going for a mushroomy mid strength type colour, but I would be equally happy with a dark chocolate, so as you can see I think it's a case of personal taste. Was I any help? Probably not. I tried to be. Maybe you could put up a pic so we could help some more? www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Carpet & Tile colour to match?? 3Aug 05, 2009 2:36 pm I voted for the lighter coloured carpet if you are having a dark grey tile and I would just go one or two shades lighter, it will define the different areas and won't look like one big dark block of the same colour everywhere and that's my expert opinion Re: Carpet & Tile colour to match?? 4Aug 05, 2009 2:48 pm Woops, sorry I was thinking the tile was lighter..sorry...CONCENTRATE>>>yes so I now agree with SuH because I reread the post. DUMMY. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Carpet & Tile colour to match?? 6Aug 05, 2009 3:30 pm Start searching for your carpet now. Greys are really tricky, and there aren't nearly as many options as there are for browns. Trust me on this! A lot of the grey carpets have very distinctive undertones, so it helps to look at the samples in natural light as well as in the showroom. One carpet range that has a couple of greys is Valley View by Kimberley (a division of Cavalier Bremworth). They have 3 good greys: silvery, mid-tone (Boulder, which we're using) and charcoal. It is a 100% wool twist carpet, and is very reasonably priced. Judie Re: Carpet & Tile colour to match?? 7Aug 05, 2009 4:14 pm Thank you experts!! As you said Judy the undertones of the greys are very commonly browny yellow whereas our tile is quite a blue grey hence the struggle so far to match anything - whether it be light or dark. I guess we'll be heading out to a few more carpet places over the weekend. Judy where did you find the Kimberley brand? Thanks! Re: Carpet & Tile colour to match?? 10Aug 06, 2009 8:03 am As another person with grey tiles and grey carpet, I can second the fact that greys are difficult, and taking a chunk of your tile with you when you go shopping for your carpet is an absolute must. I personally went with charcoal carpet and stone grey tile. I personally went with charcoal carpet and stone grey tile. Our tile is permanently located in the car now! I get hubby to carry it around in a very stylish Borders enviro bag Re: Carpet & Tile colour to match?? 13Dec 03, 2009 8:26 am I am in the same boat. We are going with a grey tile (with some darker charcoal swirls through it) and thinking of charcoal carpet. Does anyone have any pic of this? I would love to see how it looks! Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable. The large tile on the left was used in my main bathroom renovation 1 year ago. My ensuite… 0 8494 1 11011 1 15766 |
