Col Nation gave info in that thread that pretty much answers the question, but everyone keeps carrying on like chooks with their heads chopped off. Col is a registered trainer with a wealth of experience and knowledge. To summarise... Use minimal moisture on laminate floors. Use a good microfibre mopping system. First mop with a light neutral detergent in hot water, to emulsify oily/sticky soils. Then mop again using just water OR maybe a little vinegar OR metho in the water, to recover detergent residues. Then dry the floor as much as possible (maybe with a towel). Ash. Re: Timber Impressions - Cleaning it 6Mar 10, 2012 7:33 am Hi Flew, The floor you purchased has what we call a piano finish, or a high gloss (you know this, but this answer is for the readers ). If there was a scale from 1 to 10 for gloss levels, then this would be 10 ! The higher the gloss level, the more you see dust, dirt, smudge marks, foot prints, hand prints, spilt food or drinks etc. It's like buying a black car, both look "cool" but require a lot of work to keep looking "cool". So firstly, it's important to understand that it's not that this floor won't clean, it WILL clean the same as any other floor.....it's that because it is so polished and so glossy that it shows everything. In other words, if your family lives the same way now as you always have for example, then any other floor you have owned would have been the same except that they didn't have the same unforgiving piano finish, so you simply wouldn't have noticed any marks. An ultra high spec porcelain floor would be the same as Timber Impressions in this respect. It's not the floors fault, rather it's the nature of ultra high gloss floors, whereas an oiled timber floor with zero gloss will show nothing at all, but won't look as flashy.... The biggest concern people express to us is foot prints from bare feet. The oils on the skin cause the floor to be marked and show up. The wearing of shoes or at least socks fixes that issue and the use of area rugs etc of course. The oil from hands and feet sometimes is stubborn and requires more of a buff than a mop. In our showrooms, you could imagine the amount of handprints that would be on our samples. We clean them with a spray of a basic cleaner and then a dishcloth, but it's more of a buffing action done by hand rather than mop, and the samples always come up fine. It's the rigorous action that removes the stubborn marks. Now doing that all over your floor is something that only you can tell if it needs it, but that's how you get rid of foot prints. Socks on and it will be fine, socks off and you will see every footprint. In terms of durability and stain resistance and so forth, the Timber Impressions is an outstanding floor, and hundreds upon hundreds and thousands of houses have it installed in them, with very few issues at all. Indeed the product comes with a 30 year warranty. The forum is a good place for everyone to express their opinions and whilst we have not solved your problem as such, we hope we have explained why the floor shows up foot prints. A matt finish laminate with a textured finish, or an oiled timber floor would be a good choice for you. Even the floors with say a 35% gloss, like the bamboo floors will still show foot prints (from bare feet), so bare that in mind.
