Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Nov 21, 2009 3:20 pm Just thought i'd post a couple of pics of my finished floor. When i was looking people's pics were invaluable. I was all set to go with Bamboo based on cost then i ran into an old mate who is now a floorer. He offered a good price if i sourced all the wood and helped him lay it. So i took a couple of days off work, got sweaty and here is the result. Really happy with it, I am near the beach and i think Blackbutt really holds that beachy look. Floors were laid on concrete slab, on ply. it is softer underfoot than i expected, the springyness of the ply helps apparently. Finished with Satin Waterbased. Came in at around $100 a sqm total with standard grade. I was a little worried that Standard would have too much feature in it, but just enough i reckon. Probably shows up more in the pics than it does in real life. Probably saved a few dollars by helping and getting 'mate's rates', but even if i didn't it was good to be part of the process. Oh, and the TV unit is new too (was wardrobes... in the loungeroom, yeah i know!), so is the paint and the blinds. Its looking a little dull at the moment, we need to add some colour through paintings/pictures on walls. Next is working out how long we can handle the mid 90s style terracotta/orange kitchen for! Re: Solid blackbutt flooring 5Nov 22, 2009 6:50 am Quote: Looks fantastic, well done! Love the TV cabinet, is it too rude to ask how much it cost to have made? It was around $4200. Got a number of quotes, from about $3800 to $8000. Ended up going with a family friend, as i know his workmanship is quality. A lot of that cost was in the 2 pack polyester paint. Also spent a few hundred on gyprocking as the top had to be lowered about 200mm to make it the same level as the archway next to it. That was just done by a mate for cash. Re: Solid blackbutt flooring 7Nov 23, 2009 8:07 pm wow ! it looks great ,here~s a silly questions, are those floating boards or timber floors laid on concrete and sanded . Because we are building and was told timber floors cost heaps as against floating boards (tongue and groove ) thanks Re: Solid blackbutt flooring 8Nov 24, 2009 8:33 pm Andy its hardwood floors laid on concrete and sanded... with ply laid first. You might be suprised at the cost difference. Decent floating floors aren't cheap, and if building you wont have to deal with the inconvenience of a week out of the house when laying and sanding. Re: Solid blackbutt flooring 10Nov 25, 2009 8:48 pm We are building with Carlisle ,the gap between the concrete floor and the doors are only 20 to 30 ml,14 ml is what the floating boards come as ,does that sound right or should there be a bigger gap? Txs evetsllub,we dont wont to deal with the inconvenience of sanding with hardwood floors .I like the look of blackbutt ,is it a soft or hardwood.? Re: Solid blackbutt flooring 11Nov 30, 2009 12:32 pm CarolineJ It looks great, it is very similar to what I want to do in our place. What colour is the laminate? The color should be of teak. But the floor should not be of laminate. There can't be so much color difference for laminate flooring. It should be engineered flooring or solid wood flooring. I actually meant the laminate of the cabinets. I know it's a solid wood floor. Re: Solid blackbutt flooring 17Dec 07, 2009 9:23 am 'Bona' is one of the most common water-based floor polys used by floor finishers these days. Its European and has a solvent based primer followed by two coats water-based. Re: Solid blackbutt flooring 19Feb 01, 2011 9:00 pm Wow! Your floors look fantastic. We are about to get blackbutt installed, can I ask what brand of product you used? I see it is satin waterbased, but just amazed at how lovely the colour is you have and would like to get similar result. Re: Solid blackbutt flooring 20Feb 02, 2011 1:20 pm your floors look amazing,I think the blend is very nice. One question how wide /length are floorboards?. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15915 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8307 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6191 |
