Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 07, 2009 9:52 pm Hi guys, Does anyone know what chemicals are used in the Magic Fresh carpets? I really like the carpet, however I am a tad concerned about having chemicals in the carpet. If you could tell me a bit more about Magic Fresh, that would be fantastic! Re: Magic fresh carpet - chemicals used? 2Jul 07, 2009 10:43 pm Hi there Beans! I don't profess to know much about this (relatively new) carpet treatment. I found some info here http://www.blissflooring.com/AboutBliss ... Fresh.aspx I expect it is a new kind of treatment incorporating colloidal silver as a general anti-microbial additive in the carpet. Will see if I can get more info, but I think it would be quite a safe treatment. Colloidal silver has been known for centuries to have certain beneficial health effects. I am going to the Gold Coast this October to do a training course and conference, and expect to be visiting the Beaulieu carpet mill for a tour. So if not before, I should be able to give you info 'from the horses mouth' then! Cheers! Ash. Re: Magic fresh carpet - chemicals used? 3Jul 07, 2009 11:32 pm Me again! Seems the 'magic fresh' is actually a registered name of a treatment applied tom carpets made in the USA. In Oz the Beaulieu carpet mills have what looks like the same product under the name 'active-care' http://www.beaulieu.com.au/ba_activecare.php Ash. Re: Magic fresh carpet - chemicals used? 4Jul 08, 2009 10:15 am Hi Ash, Thank you so much for all of the information and your quick replies. I would still like to find out exactly what ingredients are used as I'm a bit worried about chemicals in the carpet where kids like to play. I'm also a bit worried about allergies. Do you know where I could find out the list of ingredients used? Thanks. Re: Magic fresh carpet - chemicals used? 5Jul 08, 2009 10:52 am Firstly, where did you hear of the 'magic fresh'? Its the first I have heard of that actual name. Is it said to be in a carpet that's available in Australia? From the info on that US based site, it suggests the active ingredients are ions of silver zinc and copper, and they are bound within the fibre. They also make statements that it is odour-free, which is a good thing. I feel it is highly unlikely to be worthy of concern, and would probably have the benefits it claims. Google 'colloidal silver' and you'll get the idea that it has a long history of benefits. Let me know of what carpet specifically you are looking at, and I will offer a more general appraisal of its pros & cons. Ash. Re: Magic fresh carpet - chemicals used? 6Jul 08, 2009 12:05 pm Thanks Ash. The place that is selling it calls it "Osprey Plus", colour: Woodsmoke, but I think that it is a Beaulieu carpet. It's a SDN cut pile twist. There was a sticker on the back of the carpet saying it had "Magic Fresh". Re: Magic fresh carpet - chemicals used? 7Jul 08, 2009 12:33 pm You could ask the retailer to obtain a Material Safety Data Sheet for you. I've heard of copper in socks, zinc in mould resistant paint and silver in . . . something, I can't remember. Interesting. Re: Magic fresh carpet - chemicals used? 8Jul 08, 2009 1:53 pm beans Thanks Ash. The place that is selling it calls it "Osprey Plus", colour: Woodsmoke, but I think that it is a Beaulieu carpet. It's a SDN cut pile twist. There was a sticker on the back of the carpet saying it had "Magic Fresh". A search for 'Osprey Plus' on both the Australian and US Beaulieu sites failed to find a carpet of that name. Think you'll need to ask the retailer to postively id who the manufacturer is and where it's from. I'd be surprised if its a US made Beaulieu, when they have a mill in Qld. Ash.
